Was vice president sending 'Godfather'-style message? (Leftist Wackos)
WorldNetDaily ^ | 2/14/06 | WorldNetDaily

Columnist Barry Saunders

A North Carolina columnist claimed today Dick Cheney's shooting of friend Harry Whittington was not an accident, but was meant to be a message to his former chief of staff, Scooter Libby, not to testify against the vice president in the Valerie Plame leak investigation.

"Accident my eye. Or rather, Harry Whittington's eye," writes Barry Saunders in the Raleigh, N.C., News & Observer.

"If you believe it was just an accident that Vice President Dick Cheney shot his hunting companion last weekend, you obviously have never seen 'The Godfather' movies."

Continued Saunders in his column: "Just as surely as a fish wrapped in a bulletproof vest means 'Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes,' that shotgun blast to Whittington's face was meant to convey that I. Lewis 'Scooter' Libby had better bite his tongue and forget about testifying against Cheney, his former boss, in the Valerie Plame spy case."

Libby has been indicted on federal charges he lied to investigators probing the leak of Plame's identity to the media. Last week, prosecutors reported he told a grand jury that superiors authorized him to disclose classified information to reporters because they were angered about Plame's husband's opposition to the Iraq war.

"A vice president who'll shoot an ally to get across his message of omerta – that's mobspeak for 'hush up' – may be considered a national disgrace by some," writes Saunders. "Not by me. I embrace the prospect of a lead-slingin' veep. Think of the impact Cheney's shot heard 'round the world will have on America's diplomatic efforts. When obstinate countries declare their unwillingness to negotiate with Secretary of State Condi Rice, all we have to do is roll out Deadeye Dick."

Whittington, Cheney's hunting buddy who was shot, had a mild heart attack today in the hospital where he is recovering from pellet wounds.

"Some of the bird shot appears to have moved and lodged into part of his heart in what we would say is a minor heart attack," Peter Banko, the administrator at Christus Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial in Texas. told a news conference outside the hospital today.

Vince Foster's death was a "message."
Ron Brown's death was a "message."
Mary Jo Kopechne's death was a cover-up.

What happened to Harry Whittington WAS AN ACCIDENT!

The poor man obviously has no clue how profoundly stupid this sentence is.

It could very well be a joke. I live in the Raleigh Area so I read the Raleigh paper a lot. Barry Sanders fancies himself as a humor columnist. He isn't at all funny but if this is in keeping with his normal columns it is a misguided attempt at humor.

"Vince Foster's death was a "message."

Ding!Ding! I think we have another winner!

I just posted on another thread the following:

Can we PUH-LEASE put a stop to this silliness?!? We are fighting Canada geese off the golf courses, prairie dogs from outside our homes, and deer from our lawns.

Not to mention the stray dogs that someone didn't want anymore. Give it a rest, people!! The gun VP Cheney was using was standard, and he was using the shells that are standard for quail. Not very powerful...quail are tiny, they are good eating, and you don't want to tear them up with major shot. In my opinion, more trouble than they're worth to clean and prepare for eating! Not a lot of meat.

When I hear about the horses, cattle, and other LARGE animals that are being slaughtered (and you do NOT want to know how it's done) for meat here and in foreign countries, this silliness over Cheney's accident is typical liberal, "oh BOY! we've got him now!" crap.

Until you have been bird-hunting, know how to use a shotgun, and have a bird dog who knows what he's doing, please refrain from further comment. Or, if you prefer, please visit us here in the Texas Panhandle and see how we take care of prairie dogs.

This, of course, is being addressed ONLY to vegans who eat nothing but carrots, broccoli, and whatever other plants they can find. If you are a meat-eater, please disregard.

The prospect of having to sit across the table from Cheney, in orange vest, Elmer Fudd hat and a chaw of Red Man in his cheek, will, for instance, make Iran give up its plans to develop plutonium."

This bit and his previous columns lend creadence to my theory that this is nothing but a misguided attempt at humor. This guy fancies himself as a Dave Barry type. He is not being serious.

I've been quail hunting several times, a 28 gauge shell at anything other than point-blank range is really only dangerous if it hits somebody's eye. This was an unfortunate accident, but not all that uncommon. Getting hit in the head with a baseball can be far more dangerous, this is on about the same level as getting a fish hook through your hand.

I'm sure that Cheney feels a lot of regret and will probably be replaying this in his head for the rest of his life. But it was an accident and that's all that needs to be said.

I'm inclined to agree with you, re Barry Saunders.
Pending any furthor complications in the health of poor Mr. Whittingdon....a hunting accident involving the VP of the USA is a natural topic for water cooler jokes and extensive political satire.

By everyone, everywhere.
I like Mr. Cheney very much, and respect him - almost as much as I respect Donald Rumsfield (who I adore)... here comes the but...
But this is funny!
And the topic is deliciously funny when mangled by liberals and ignorant reporters who haven't the faintest familiarity with guns or hunting in the first place, and confuse being accidentally hit with birdshot as equivalent to being on the receiving end of an "assault weapon". LOL!

"Godfather message?" NO. We all know it was a set-up orchestrated by Karl Rove, after he twisted Whittingtons arm to agree to be sprayed with bird shot. All to defelct attantiona way from the real corruption in the White House, Cheney's involvement in harming National Security by ordering "Scooter Libby" to destroy Valerie Plame and her family.

No message there, just everyday ordinary Republican corruption >>Sarcasm, ya'll<<
