I've had a theory about Hollywood for a while. Look around locally, at the high schools, colleges and local theaters. Who are the actors? There are a few normal joes, a few sorority and frat types, but mostly they're the goth, punk, flamboyant people who don't really fit in. The skinny kids in the super baggy jeans and t-shirts, smoking behind the gym. Some of them go to theater because it's almost a guaranteed A, some go there because it's a place where no matter how goofy they act, nobody will rip on them.

Now, think about getting out of high school or college, having little money, and deciding you're going to go to Hollywood to break into movies or television. Most people will tell you flatly, it's not a rational dream. At any point in time, probably 95% of all actors are out of work. Even after you hit the top, you can hit the basement in an hour. Anybody heard anything from the three boys who were the sons on Home Improvement lately? Every one of them talked about projects they were going to do when Home Improvement ended. But they apparently couldn't get work. So who goes there? Basically three types of people. First, the emotionally unstable. These are the people so desperate for cheers and approval that they would do ANYTHING to get it. Second, the people who hate where they are, hate small town or midwest or suburban America so much that they'd risk anything to get away. The third are the predators. They're the ones who take advantage of the other two. They're the manipulators, the sex freaks, and the drug pushers.

Basically the message that comes out of Hollywood is the viewpoint of the people who are drawn to it. Want to know why there are so many stories about drug dealers? Cause so much drug dealing goes on. Want to know why there are so many movies that feature the sickest kind of sex you can think of? That's what they like. Want to know why the movies all paint middle America as this vast wasteland of morons, nonthinkers, and hateful people? That's how they see us.

This is absurdly oversimplified, of course. There are good people in Hollywood, just like everywhere else. But I always tend to go for the simple explanations. They do these kinds of movies because that's what they like, and that's how they see things.

Yours are very interesting ideas, R. You could well be right. The same crowd also gravitates to the Left, including the Democrat Party. I've been saying that the Democrat Party is the party of sociopaths and morons. We might also add the seriously delusional. It's the sociopaths, as you say preditors, who manipulate and exploit the morons and other assorted nuts who make up the rank and file of the Left.
