LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The producers of a global warming documentary starring former Vice President Al Gore have landed a worldwide distribution deal with Paramount Pictures' specialty label, the Viacom Inc.-owned studio said on Tuesday.
"An Inconvenient Truth," profiling Gore's campaign to raise awareness about the links between carbon emissions and climate change and making his case for what should be done about it, will open in U.S. theaters on May 26, Paramount said.
The release schedule for other territories has not been decided, a studio spokeswoman said.
The 95-minute film, which grew out of Gore's lecture circuit PowerPoint presentation on global warming, premiered to favorable reviews last month at the Sundance Film Festival.
The documentary is directed by Davis Guggenheim, whose credits also include the HBO western "Deadwood," the FX cop show "The Shield" and the public television production "The First Year."
Executive producers include Laurie David, the wife of actor-producer Larry David, the star of HBO comedy "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
The production company behind the film, Participant Productions, also produced politically based films "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "Syriana."
The commercial opening of the film in May will coincide with release of the book version of "An Inconvenient Truth," as a follow-up to the former Democratic presidential nominee's 1992 bestseller "Earth in the Balance," from Rodale Books.
LOL. Along with Sheehan's book...
What Al says is not true????!!!??? /stunned sarcasm :-)
Yep. But who should play algore?
Can he get Ted Kaczynski the unabomber to make a cameo appearance in the movie? Apparently Ted was a big fan of Al's book, Earth in the Balance.
Algore makes Dean sound sane...almost.
Wal-Mart would not carry such trash :)
At least M. Moore is a talented liar. Algore is a pathetic stiff.
LOL. that's how I know where Algore is travelling. I just look at the weather and see where the deep freeze is. ;o)
I think Algore was the Uni-bombers protege, not the other way around. LOL
Seriously though, I seem to remember that copies of that masterwork, Earth in the Balance, was found in Ted's hut, and the media did their best to suppress this inconvenient fact. I don't have a source for this, but it's been around FR for a while.
Whoops, small typo - Left out an "i".
I think you are correct. I think the Unibombers manifesto made more sense though.
Communists, all of them.
Don't call Michael Moore that...it is demeaning to cartoon characters.
Ever see a picture of Ted when he was arrested and one on Al Gore from his college days? Separated at birth.
He would have to put on some weight, but Joe Iszuzu would be typecast.
Joe is too honest. We'll have to go by looks. Not sure Marty Feldman is still kicking though.
With Al Gore's cadaverous personality? Dig up Lon Chaney and put him in a suit.
Have you ever seen the unabomber and ALgore in the same place at the same time?
I could only choke through three chapters of Earth in the Balance. . .it was nothing but drivel with no facts to back it up.
It was bad enough I had to borrow the book from the library. Does Hollywood really think a WASP stay-at-home mom is going to spend her husband's hard-earned money watching a fictional adaptation?
Not another teen movie!
