Bush to invite Koizumi to Presley's Graceland

US President George Bush intends to invite Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, a known Elvis Presley enthusiast, to the former estate of the rock legend in Tennessee, the US Ambassador to Japan said today.

Thomas Schieffer told Koizumi today that Bush intends to invite the premier to the US this year, with a possible trip to Elvis’s home, the US embassy said.

Koizumi was due to visit the United States last year, but cancelled the trip ahead of snap elections in September.

Ok...but try to avoid August. It gets a bit crowded here at that time.

LOL I think the crowds will have to disperse when Bush and Koizumi arrive.

To be more precise, "dead Elvis" week is the week of August 16th.  Besides being crowded it's usually hot and humid right around then.

"Elvis birthday" week is the week of January 8th.

Both tend to get crowded, but "dead Elvis" is the bigger draw, so far.

One thing I wish I'd gotten to go to at Graceland was the premiere party for Lilo and Stitch.  It sounded like a fun party.

Graceland is one block away from crack alley. Honestly believe the King would have moved back to Mississippi if he had lived longer.

I went, I saw, I enjoyed. Truly it was a lot of fun and it was really amazing to see how many records (round things with grooves in them) he sold in his lifetime. Graceland was not nearly as large as I expected and the furnishings were very interesting.

What, now we are a travel agency? Tell the Jap PM to make his own arrangements, we have more important things to do.

Nope. I am neither racist or a hick and care little he supports us, which you failed to prove.

BTW in what does he support us? Maybe you have missed the last 6 years of negotations in Asia that nothing has occured -

I think you protest to much...

records (round things with grooves in them)

ROFLMAO - I've never had anyone ever describe them to me like that. I'm 45 so I grew up playing records. Ahhh the good ole days.

Well I think Bush is just being courteous to the Japanese Prime Minister. Probably a thank-you for sending troops to Iraq,

If I had to move to another country, and was given the choice of anyplace on earth, I'd pick Japan. It's one of the few sane places left.

I think the issue is that "jap" is not a suitable term.

You should've stuck with "sushi-sucking bastard".

Don't make me come over there and start drawing cartoons.

Better take your flak jacket and helmet. This used to be a great area of town, but now is a ghetto.

You have no idea how sad the people that used to live there feel. I just wish that things were like they were 35 years ago there.

You can be sure that Jr. will be right down there on Elvis Presley Blvd. kissing the King, Emperor, whatever's feet.

Did you see him sitting in the senator's section next to Lieberman at the SOTUS?

"Tell the Jap PM to make his own arrangements"

I see. Well, I think I'll just let President Bush make that decision instead of someone who refers to the head of state of one of our allies as a "Jap."

Japan is our greatest ally in asia and may be our best ally period, even over some western european countries. They have the second largest navy in the world, its the second largest economy in the world, and its a thriving democracy. They sit next to a growing communist nuclear power(China) and our US/Japanese alliance in the future will be very important.

I lived there a bit as a child. (Dad was stationed on the USS Midway in 74-76.) Tokyo was really crowded, but it's a really lovely place overall. I'd love to go back to visit.

I've never lived in Whitehaven but I used to work off of Millbranch. And no...I'm not a former stripper! LOL

From what I understand, Whitehaven used to be THE place to live. I married a Frayser boy....that also used to be a nice area.....years ago. We live north of Raleigh but south of Millington. We are some of those despicable county residents that never pay taxes. LOL

As a special privilege, granted only to special VIPs, the Prime Minister will be allowed to crap into the golden toilet from which the King fell for the last time, while reading a book about Jesus as an alien from outer space.

I need to visit Japan someday. I've always loved their culture, food, and traditions. I love classic Japanese movies, also (Kurosawa, Ozu, etc.). And some really cute ladies there, too! :-)

When we moved to Whitehave 35 years ago from So. Calif., it was a wonderful place to live and raise children. That only lasted about two years and then busing came about and white flight.

We moved to Covington a few years ago and I was really sad to have to leave.
