Bush Visits Ohio to Boost State GOP

DUBLIN, Ohio

President Bush mixed politics with his prescription for what ails the nation's health care system on a trip Wednesday to Ohio, which was a pivotal state in his re-election and one with key races in this year's midterm elections.

The president made his case for health savings accounts at Wendy's International Inc., where 9,000 employees have signed up for the accounts since the hamburger giant began offering them last year.

"After more than five years of health care costs going at double-digit rates, Wendy's overall health care costs rose only by 1 percent last year," Bush said.

Bush was joined at the event by Taft, George V. Voinovich, R-Ohio, and Reps. Pat Tiberi, David Hobson and Deborah Pryce. Sen. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, who is in a toss-up race against Democratic Rep. Sherrod Brown, was invited but remained in Washington for a Judiciary Committee hearing.

Hmmmm. Snub or not?

Brian Rothenberg, communications director for the Ohio Democratic Party...

"Try telling somebody who is underemployed, or working at Wendy's, that they should put money in a health savings account," he said.

Atta boy, Brian! Nothing like Dem elites spewing condescending rhetoric to get lower income folks to love 'em!

As I've said before, I love my HSA. It's the best thing since sliced bread.
The DNC should jump on board but they're holding out for National Health Care. (Which makes all health care workers government employees)

somebody who is underemployed

I never mind looking like an idiot on FR, so I have to ask: what is "underemployed"? I know what "employed" and "unemployed" mean, but not "underemployed."

[i]Paul Hackett's angry decision to withdraw from the Senate race in Ohio is a devastating blow for the Democratic Party and may even have profound long-term repercussions on American politics. It opens the door to the very real possibility that opposition to the war, and to any possible conflict with Iran, will focus on a new Third Party populist movement that could reach the scale of the H. Ross Perot movement in the 1990s but be far more passionate. And that could cripple the Democrats' hopes, and even expectations of regaining the White House in 2008. I'm not sure, but I assumed it was a White House intern description during the previous administration.

DeWine, Voinovich, Taft and other GOP elected officials in state are liabilities in Ohio.

The President and Blackwell are not.

DeWine, the fool, fails to comprehend still that the reason Blackwell is doing better in his bid for election is that he doesn't alienate Bush and he is a conservative. DeWine, the fool, still refuses to acknowledge his son lost election in fourth place because deWine chose to join the McCain RINO bus.

DeWine, the fool, thinks the key to re-election is to be a wish washy RINO vs a principled conservative in Ohio politics. Nevermind most of the OHIO politicians ARE RINO's, and that is why they are in trouble with the coin scandel, Taft's taxes, etc...

DeWine the fools, fails to comprehend the ONLY way he'll win re-election, if he does, is because a) The Democrats are traitors b) Blackwell is popular and will inspire grassroot turnout that might provide enough votes to edge DeWine over the top and c) The President still inspires the Base.

Has the President met with Blackwell yet? I would think that would increase his visibility.

Is DeWine really in a toss-up race?

Had his son not followed in his father's footsteps, and had been man enough to serve his country in uniform, it may have distinguished him enough from the other Republican candidates to make a difference. But alas, like so many other sons of RINO families, he was a little too good to serve.

He was against Hackett. Not sure how he polls against Brown.

The DSCC poll had DeWine and Brown tied. So figure DeWine is up, maybe 5 points. That still makes him an incumbent polling below 50%

Brown is much stronger than Hackett. Hackett is mercurial and actually a crackpot (considered so by both parties). Dewine has lost his "base" by being disloyal to GOP and President in Senate. The Dems are fired up to take the seat. Brown was Secretary of State, has a magic name in Ohio politics and he has congressional experience.
