Overland Park resident Chuck Ahner, distinguished West Point graduate and MBA recipient from Boston Univerity, announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for U. S. House of Representatives from the Kansas 3rd District at a kick-off luncheon last Thursday. Speaking to a standing-room-only audience, Ahner said, “It is about leadership. It is about solutions. It is about a mission. I look around me and see a need for clear, concise leadership—Republican leadership in Congress for our community.”
Ahner rolled out key issues and solid solutions that will be the cornerstone of his campaign, along with his record of leadership, business experience and passion for serving his community:
Ahner cited his years of business and military experience as vital qualifications for filling the leadership void in Congress. “As senior vice president of a local company, Midland Loan Services, the largest employer in Corporate Woods, I have created jobs here in Kansas. I understand how the business climate and regulation can assist or hinder growth,” he said. Ahner’s business career also includes experience in the petroleum and chemical production field.
Ahner said, “We are concerned about terrorism, crime and securing our borders. I am no stranger to the threats from the outside. Americans do not cut and run.” Ahner’s military tour included service in an intelligence unit monitoring the East-West border in Germany during the Cold War, and commanding National Guard troops.
Addressing healthcare, Ahner said, “Healthcare inflation continues unabated and this expense is a hidden tax on the U.S. economy.” He explained, “ My multi-point healthcare plan focuses on increased coverage availability to all Kansans by using technology to reduce the cost of, and the mistakes in, providing healthcare; giving incentives to small employers to band together to offer healthcare plans to employees; and enacting medical tort reform.” Ahner and wife Jennifer are parents of four children who attend school in the Blue Valley district in Johnson County. Ahner is treasurer of the Greater Kansas City West Point Society, member of the Overland Park Rotary, a Kansas 3rd Congressional District Republican Delegate, legislative representative at Harmony elementary school, head coach for a youth sports team, and is active in church youth programs. So why is he better than Dennis Moore? Because he has an R by his name? You haven't persuaded me to vote for him yet. Blah blah blah ..... the same old rhetoric. It is NOT compelling.
Kris Kobach WAS the best choice......unfortunately he didn't respond to a commercial that Comrade Moore ran which said he took funds from a "white supremacist" group. The charge was so outrageous that he didnt think anyone would believe it (dont forget, Comrade Moore takes money from Planned Parenthood-- and M. Sanger was a Nazi sympathizer).

Correction, Sanger wasn't a Nazi sympathizer -- she INSPIRED Hitler with her racial & eugenics ideology. Far worse.
Yes, now Kris was a candidate I could support. But this district is so weird and the hatred between sides is so intense that I think we can't get anyone decent elected any longer. So why should I care? I am not that partial to the letter R. So I'm going to yawn if all they give me is some Democrat with an R by his name. I'm just uninterested in the race unless I have a real option. And yeah yeah....all the talk of majorities and all of that is just not working on me these days. We have majorities and they vote like socialists. So again, why should I care?

I hope Moore is defeated. It's very embarrasing to have a RAT in the KS congressional delegation. Unfortunately, his district is the commie part of the state. Plus stupid comments like "Ahner's not conservative enough for me so I'm not voting unless he kisses my ass" are definitely not helpful.
There is something conservatives want to know before committing. What does Chuck Ahner bring to the race that Dennis Moore's previous opponents didn't?
There's another candidate, state Representative Scott Schwab, who's also in the race.

I did, but it saddens me more than Dick Gephardt will ever know, to know that fewer and fewer get the classic comedic references.
First, he brings very strong conservative credentials. Chuck is an active member of First Family church in Olathe, takes his faith seriously, and has taken heat for being "too conservative." He knows what ought to make the Republican party different from the Democratic party, and is committed to those differences.
Second, he brings a proven track-record of leadership in business and the military. Chuck is CTO at Midland Loan Services, a subsidiary of PNC. Full disclosure here--I work at Midland as well, and Chuck is the head of my division. As a result, I know from personal experience that he knows how to get things done. Chuck is also a West Point graduate, and served a decade in the Army. He worked in both intelligence and signals, and was stationed for a time on the DMZ in Korea.
I believe that, unlike past candidates, Chuck combines a firm commitment to conservative principles with an established history of business success that will appeal to 3rd District Republicans and convince them not to vote for Moore in yet another election.

It is nowhere near enough for me. In fact it is worse because it leaves me without a decent political party to support.
Is he willing to push the legislation to defund the ACLU?
And sponsor a bill to establish tax credits for charitable donations? I'll accept a $10K annual max on that!
Sorry it took a while for me to get back to you. I wanted to review Chuck's tax reform position, to see how it applied to your question.
Chuck supports (and if he were in Congress, would co-sponsor) H.R.25, the "Fair Tax" resolution. This measure would scrap the Federal Income Tax entirely, and replace it with a National Retail Sales Tax. My understanding is that, under this plan, only retail transactions related to services and new goods are taxed. Therefore, any income you donate to charity would be tax free, with no annual maximum.
I am not familiar with the legislation to defund the ACLU. Do you know the resolution or bill number, or the name of the sponsor(s)?
