More young blacks ready to embrace GOP
Boston Globe ^ | August 22, 2005 | Kaitlin Bell

Some cast aside traditional loyalties...

Adam Hunter, an ambitious law student with bright eyes, an easy smile, and plenty of charisma, seems practically destined for politics...

a first-year law student at Howard University, a historically black campus with a long record of liberal activism.

He has political ambitions of his own -- but not with the Democrats.

Instead, Hunter, who as an undergraduate headed Howard's chapter of College Republicans, sees himself as part of a younger generation of African-Americans.

He is ready to cast aside traditional loyalties to the Democratic Party and forge his own political identity.

''There's a lot of hints out there that something is going on," ...

''the party of Lincoln," ...

''Give us a chance, and we'll give you a choice."...

It's a start. But this change won't happen overnight.

True, but Howard Dean will still try to insinuate that they are a part of the wait staff. That alone is a crime.

Alright, this is great news! We need to capitalize on this big time and roll out the red carpet for them! This will give us a chance for a permanent Conservative makeover for America.

The Republicans fought slavery and the Democrats has lots of recent KKK ties.

I think had the Dems not been using the treasury to buy votes with great society programs, they would have been free of the shackles of the Democrat slave-master long ago IMO.

Only when it becomes a class thing, and not a race thing, will we reach our goal.

I really, really wish we'd ended up with Herman Cain as our junior Senator, and not Johnny Isakson. Cain sure did get my vote.

He was a more-conservative choice, and a Southern state electing a black Republican to the Senate would have helped the process discussed here along immensely.

Could you elaborate on what you mean, such as on who is holding what view, in your opinion, and how that's being shown?

Thanks.

Sorry, I don't see it happening. As long as many blacks believe they are entitled to money and special rights just because of what happened to their ancestors.

I'll bet that the author of this piece was gritting her teeth as she wrote it! I can only wonder how she managed to refrain from blurting out "Uncle Tom" or "Oreo" as she was interacting with the subjects of her piece.
