The FBI translator who supplied the 12-hours of Saddam Hussein audiotapes excerpted by ABC's "Nightline" Wednesday night now says the network discarded his translations and went with a less threatening version of the Iraqi dictator's comments.
"What you heard on ABC News was their translation," former U.N. weapons inspector Bill Tierney told ABC Radio's Sean Hannity on Thursday.
"They came up with something different on a key element regarding terrorism in the United States," Tierney insisted.
In the "Nightline" version of a 1996 recording, Saddam predicts that Washington, D.C. would be hit by terrorists. But he adds that Iraq would have nothing to do with the attack.
Tierney says, however, that what Saddam actually said was much more sinister. "He was discussing his intent to use chemical weapons against the United States and use proxies so it could not be traced back to Iraq," he told Hannity.
In a passage not used by "Nightline," Tierney says Saddam declares: "Terrorism is coming . . . . In the future there will be terrorism with weapons of mass destruction. What if we consider this technique, with smuggling?"
Tierney's full translations are set for release this weekend by The Intelligence Group in Washington, D.C.
Holy crap! You know, I'm so damned tired of the MSM. They serve absolutely no useful purpose anymore. None.
Even Saddam's generals were expecting to use WMD on the invading army; the fact that he didn't have any took all of them by surprise.
Several UN inspectors have said that they went to Syria; we've all seen reports that Russia helped to organize the evacuation of these materials to Syria, and we've seen reports of the convoys crossing the border during the run-up to the war.
I'm not surprised that Bush's enemies don't want to talk about this. What mystifies me is why Bush doesn't talk about it. The two possible reasons are that, first, it would set us on a collision course with Syria, and he isn't ready yet...
Or two, that this was the most successful operation of the war. Saddam was convinced to voluntarily ship his weapons out of the country, and he was convinced by Putin to do it. It doesn't matter that Syria has them, because Syria already has tons of their own. What matters is that Saddam was denied their use at the moment he most needed them, and he was denied their use by his own decision, thanks to a game run against him by Putin and his "ally" in Syria, who sold him out, or maybe was an unwitting enabler.
Which might explain why Bush can't take credit for his greatest coup of the war, and also why, in his eyes, Putin can do no wrong.
And you can be sure Isikoff won't cover the more sinister tranlation either. Stinking quisling.
More Media Bias ..... OR TREASON
ABC is apparently Saddam's defense counsel.
Disgusting.
CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT FRAUD
Remember with CBS RatherGate even the actual documents were frauds.
ABC learned a lesson from Dan Rather - "Don't let Freepers see the original documents, ever!"
ABC= All Bull Crap
-PJ
Well DUH! I'm so glad I didn't waste the DVR space. Gawd, I should really learn Arabic!
Typical.
That's enough. Everyone involved at ABC News should lose their jobs. If they can't do an honest job of reporting something, they shouldn't be in the news business. It's a license to mislead the public.
Nada.... not even within the city. And there were never any reports of nukes/bombs smuggled through it. They tested the layers of soil for any residuals and it came up negative. A nuke would have left traces. :)
Should read - "More Americans get more Bull*hit from ABC than any other source..."
So that explains ABC's interest in the first place.
We all wondered why a MSM outlet would bother with this as it doesn't fit the agenda. We now know they are attempting to soften what comes out.
No matter what we learn from these tapes and others in the future, do not expect your neo-Marxy friend to all-of-a-sudden change his tune...they'll never admit they were wrong. They'll be helped by the media pooh-poohing any revelations.
Kofi Annan says Saddam's WMD admission irrelevant, we should just "move on"
