Having a chance to annoint the next Presidential Candidate might be attractive, but I think Bush is better off keeping Cheney for people to be mad at instead of Bush. The old lightening rod concept.

The local Muslim ( American Convert to Islam, took up flight lessons soon after, hates the Bush admin as much as he hates us infidels ) actually said he felt sorry for Dick Cheney over this and then admitted that it takes an awful lot for him to feel sorry for that #$@%^#$%@$@#%.
Point being if even he is bothered by this coverage its so far over the top its left the solar system.
I was at University of Virginia with Sabato in the 70's - we were both undergrads - the loonie lefties in the Government Department (Political Science at most Universities) already worshiped Larry as a genius.
My guess is that many of the same worshipers now hold positions of influence and power in the MSM and entrenched Washington bureaucracy.
