Battleship Brouhaha
Fox News ^ | February 15, 2006 | Hannity & Colmes

from "Hannity & Colmes," ...

SEAN HANNITY...from San Francisco tonight, the board of supervisors here overwhelmingly voted to reject a plan last year that would bring the historic World War II Iowa battleship right here to San Francisco harbor, as a museum and tourist center.

We're now joined by one of the supervisors that voted against that plan, Gerardo Sandoval is with us.

You don't want a symbol of war in the harbor. Is what you said to me.

GERARDO SANDOVAL: That's right...

it's a warship and it's got guns on it. It fires things. You know, you can't deny what it is.

SANDOVAL: I don't think we should have a military. Absolutely.

SANDOVAL: The United States should not have a military. All in all, we would be in much, much, much better shape.

...what do you want to defend ourselves with?

SANDOVAL: Well, you got cops. It's called the Coast Guard.

HANNITY: I've got to tell you, this is a first. You made look Alan look like a hawk.

I'm going to tell you something. If America is attacked, you have no defenses.

You have no liberty.

You have no freedom.

You can't think in such a shallow way.

You've got to tell me that this is a joke.

HANNITY: Or when al Qaeda attacks you, what are you going to do?

Yep. Sandoval isn't the worst of them. Chris Daley is the ne plus ultra of loons.

Maybe Sand Oval could spend some time in the Middle East, and should he be unlucky enough to get the Nick Berg treatment from some terrorists, he might have the scales lifted from his eyes just before his decapitation.

The huge costs of placing either the battleships or SR-71s into active service are prohibitive, as well, the logistics and personnel demands are virtually impossible given our force transition program to small, reactive and aggressive units.

I suspect the battleships could likewise be pressed back into service without a great deal of trouble, perhaps even those being used as museums.
Wish it were that easy, the Navy doesn't have the men with the training to operate a 600 psi manually operated steam plant any more. And it isn't something you learn from a book.
And the 16" guns are the same, no trained men to operate them.
You could call back the old 50+ yr old retired to train the crews, but it would take a lot of time, and many of us wouldn't fit down the scuttles any more.

The Iowa class battleships are a national treasure; they're the one thing we have which could plausibly sail straight into the straits of Hormuz with no fear of any conventional weapon

Torpedoes are conventional weapons.

This insane/diseased maggot from Gay Frisco is another great reason to never visit San Francisco and to never spend any money there.

What are the SFPD going to respond with? The City Council wants to take away their firearms.

No, SF only wants to disarm its law-abiding citizens. Cops and criminals would still have theirs.

I heard the interview last week myself.

I about lost it at the pomposity of this communist/fascist slime ball.

A few days later, another thread about this provided a link to e-mail this puke so I freeped it big time.

One thing this scum bag did point out was the fact that because of this, he and the city of San Franfaggo had relieved extreme amounts if "HATE mail" from all around the country. In other words, he was complaining about the rest of the nation that did not support their ideology.

He did point out that he had the full support of most all of the Queens in the Bay area.

You really should use a slightly narrower brush. Contrary to popular belief, everything north of LA to the Oregon border is not the Bay Area. :=)

SF is "unique" unto itself and is looked down upon by many of us who live in the Bay Area.

It took about fifty of them to sink the Musashi. The Iowa could easily be fitted with the wherewithal to prevent anything launching more than one or two torpedoes at it.

This ain't 1944.

NOTE:

After we were fooled into leaving South Vietnam behind with Senator TED KENNEDY's getting Congress to cut off all our funding to fight for its own Freedom with...

...KGB Files now show us that the Communist Soviet Union gave $6 Billion in Military Aid to the North for it's final solution in the South.

...This translated into over 600 Soviet tanks and lots of heavy artillery coming down thru the HO CHI MINH Trail for a "Final Solution" in the South. This was more tanks than Gen. PATTON needed to win World War II with in Europe.

Bringing for all of us to see in the end:

For you see,
...there are real winners and losers in war, especially if you don't have the tools of war to fight for your Freedom with.

...In 1955 DISNEYLAND opened up in Southern California. In the 1960's America's real Anti-War Fantasyland opened up in Northern California with future Senator BARBARA BOXER leading the way,

...to Freedom's detriment.

And now...
...in this new time of war...
...in a new century...
...with an enemy that's now...
...just around the corner and...
...up your street,
...with our own Freedom at stake...
...right here at home:

...Senators KENNEDY & BOXER are at it again...

...this time to our own Freedom's detriment.
