S.F.'s stance on military gains enemies: City bans trips to land of 'kooks'
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 2/18/06 | Peter Fimrite

Highland, San Bernardino County -- The faded sign outside Kay's Cafe in the city of Highland sports a cartoon caricature of a grinning chef holding a frying pan.

City officials, who use the drab yellow diner as a kind of impromptu town center, are looking a lot like the diminutive chef on the sign these days as they hold San Francisco's feet to the fire.

The prod that woke this bedroom community at the base of the San Bernardino Mountains, whose 2005 population city officials estimate at 50,860, was a decision by San Francisco voters to pass an advisory measure banning military recruiters from schools.

Calling San Franciscans a bunch of "kooks and nuts" and castigating supervisors for their "tomfoolery," the City Council unanimously approved a resolution "prohibiting the expenditure of city funds for attending conferences, training seminars and/or workshops to be held in the City of San Francisco."

It was a bold move for a city that is virtually unknown outside of San Bernardino County, but it turns out little Highland was simply the first to pile on.

San Francisco Supervisors fanned the flames of middle American contempt for the city by the bay with talk about impeaching President Bush. Then Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval opened the floodgates of national ridicule this past week on the "Hannity & Colmes" show on Fox News when he said the United States should not have a military.

That did it. San Francisco, itself, is being depicted by conservative talk radio hosts all over the nation as a place full of loonies.

Highland, meanwhile, has been thrust into the public eye....

The entire city should be sprayed with RAID and LYSOL.

Gotta love it, even if it is mostly symbolic. I wish others would join in.

I think this is inspirational!

If cities can pass resolutions calling for "all troops out of Vietn - excuse me, Iraq!" and "Impeach Bush NOW!", then why can't we tell the Communists no more capitalist capital to their capital city?

Way to go Highland! Maybe if more cities would boycott them the few sane residents of S.F. would wake up and realize what idiots they're city officials are making of them.

I saw this jerk SF Councilman on H & C and he was far beyond ignorant and ridiculous. I decided to get out of SF when they began covering sex change operations as part of the City Workers Health Benefits and, about the same time, began extolling the educational efficacy of 'Ebonics' as a means of inclusion.

A bunch of Leftist nut-cases who are dangerous despite being amusing in their stupidity.

The "Athens of the West" is no more.

They've coasted for over a generation on a reputation that they didn't make and that they refuse to live up to.

Pile on!

Hey, if SF can pass measures attacking the nation, why can't others pass them supporting it?

F-Francisco. (Well, no, they'd enjoy that too much.)

That wasteland has long since seceded from the United States. I say we send in General Sherman's descendants and raze the place like they did the last time secession happened.

"But it's not just the ratty part of town. The upper class in San Francisco is that way. The Bohemian Grove, which I attend from time to time . . . It is the most faggy goddamned thing you could ever imagine with that San Francisco crowd. I can't shake hands with anybody from San Francisco."

I live in the San Francisco Bay area.

I hope that Jesus reclaims this area for himself, and his followers. Sooner rather than later.

However, I am not optomistic, and I pray Jesus will forgive me for that.

I hope that all the liberals in this area repent of their ignorance and become the most avid Christians in the history of the world.

Sooner rather than later.

However, I am not optomistic, and I pray Jesus will forgive me for that.

If conversion is not in the Lord's plans, I pray that Jesus lift this burden from me, and grant that I amy find a job and a means to support my family in a more Christian part of America. Far away from California. WAY sooner rather than later!!

I can't stand this area that I live in. If all normal Americans forsake this part of the country, I can't blame them for doing so. I live here, and I am embarrassed to say that I live here, just because of the treasonous, brain-dead sataninic atheist communists who inhabit this place. May God have mercy on the souls that inhabit this hellhole. Please have mercy on us.

I impore all who do not live here (as well as those who do) - to please pray for the SF Bay area. As a transplanted Midwesterner, I see the need, and it is indeed great. The "bluer" the state, the lower the intellect, and the lesser the common sense.

Something could be said to the Companies and Organizations planning to hold conventions there.

The San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau has a page welcoming deviants home.

The city council will embrace the controversy and figure it is helping to build the "anti-war movement"

BTW, any convention in the city bookedat a non-union hotel is treated to lots, and lots and lots of nasty calls from union call mills designed to harass organization members and sow confusion among members.

Usual socialist sensibility. They have no sense of industry, markets or common courtesy at all.

You have every right to be proud of them! This is a great idea they have. SF does a lot of convention business. If you could get a few hundred medium size cities boycotting them it would have a significant impact. And somebody has to go first.

Maybe they could follow up, expand upon the idea by
searching out whatever "conservative" type orgainizations
that are located in S.F., and the Bay Area, (there have to be at least a few) and send them invitations...

"Come have your convention in Highland", heheheh...

Shoot, they could send invitaions to the most extreme left-
wingers, too, just to piss 'em off.

"Tired of the barking moonbat liberals and other assorted wack-o's infesting the otherwise spectacular city of S.F.?, Take a break, come to Highland! Home of real people!"

Smart move. In the case of coverage, it's not considered a "choice", like abortion is. What clucks.

When O'Reilly encouraged AQ to take down Sodom On The Bay I felt his only sin was a failure to think big.

I look forward to the day that an 8.3 earthquake levels the city and eliminates its malodorous influence on the culture.

I like the fact that Barrett firearms will not sell nor service any firearm for any government agency within California because of their ban on 50 caliber weapons.

I also used to live there, I am back in the Midwest.
I also hope that San Francisco could be reclaimed, it should be. The ani-American, self hating liberals don't deserve the pleasure of occupying such a beautiful place.

Come on back, my part of the Midwest is doing very well; I'll send your name to some recruiters!
