Mothers Against Illegal Aliens protest focused on immigration impacts

BY GENTRY BRASWELL

HERALD/REVIEW

SIERRA VISTA — The founder of Mothers Against Illegal Aliens says the ungoverned flood of illegal immigration is ruining opportunities for “the legal families of America.”

Phoenix resident Michelle Dallacroce said she founded the organization officially in January.

A dozen or so demonstrators gathered Saturday morning along Highway 92 near milepost 331 in the Hunter Canyon area protesting poor immigration policy and its effects on the quality of living in Arizona.

In the brisk morning wind, many motorists honked in support of the demonstrators platform. At one point, a state Department of Public Safety officer stopped by to remind demonstrators they weren’t allowed to put signs on the guardrail.

Dallacroce, a mother and U.S. Air Force veteran who is originally from Chicago, clarified that Mothers Against Illegal Aliens members need not necessarily be mothers to join the group.

Supporters are foremost against open-border immigration policy, she said.

“We have grandmothers, we have grandfathers, we’ve got children. This has to do with families — the legal families of America,” Dallacroce said.

The children of illegal Mexican immigrants, she said, should not legally be considered U.S. citizens nor receive the legacy of citizenship, according to Mothers Against Illegal Aliens’ interpretation of the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

These naturalized children of illegal immigrants, Dallacroce said, are causing the state school system and hospitals to malfunction.

She cited “overcrowding in the classrooms where our children are being slowed down to the speed of the slowest students who cannot speak English.”

Phoenix has about 156,000 students in its public schools who need English-as-a-Second-Language classes, she said.

A federal appellate judge recently ruled against the state citing the public schools’ inefficient handling of the growing number of students who aren’t English speakers. The judge ruled Arizona would be fined $500,000 per day until an acceptable plan can be worked out by the state house and the governor.

The fines have so far accumulated to more than $12 million.

Dallacroce said she wrote a letter to Laura Bush, appealing to the first lady’s protective maternal instinct on behalf of the “legal mothers of America.”

Though the president’s wife has not yet responded, Dallacroce said she anticipates a response.

She also wrote Arizona Public School Superintendent Tom Horne and expects a response from him, too.

Dallacroce said the best way to proceed would be to tell all illegal Mexican immigrants to leave by their own accord before a given date like July 1, then build a wall at the U.S.-Mexico international border. Those illegal immigrants who had not left after July 1 would be in violation of the law, never allowed to work in the United States again.

“Treason is a crime even when you call it humanitarian aid,” a protest sign read Saturday morning. Another sign read, “Impeach Governor Napolitano.” Another read, “Illegal aliens go home, and fix your own country: Stop trashing ours.”

Former Hereford resident Laine Lawless said the “Treason” sign was in reference to two members of a faith-based border humanitarian effort who pleaded not guilty after being charged last year with illegally transporting three illegal immigrants.

“I hope they put them in prison for a long time. We cannot tolerate people transporting illegal aliens under the guise of humanitarian aide,” Lawless said.

On Jan. 12, the defendants motion to dismiss these criminal charges was denied by a federal magistrate.

Lawless, who now lives in Tucson, said resident sentiment in Tucson “seems like they lean toward the open borders lobby.”

Often, demonstrators said, as one travels farther from the border, the U.S.-Mexico border problems are less of an important issue.

Perhaps Laura can convince George to publicly come clean about whatever youthful indiscretions Vicente' has evidence of (donkey show?), thereby freeing him of the blackmail. He can't run again so he really has nothing to lose, but does have the opportunity to finish his term out in an honorable fashion and perhaps get a historical nod as a real statesman if he faces down Mexico as he should.

Thanks for the ping, I'm still trying to sort out this idea that Arizona is being fined- for not providing a good enough education to Spanish speaking children? I am truly confused.

Someone illegally enters our country and yet we are obligated to educate their children. OK if that's how it is I guess I could break and enter at some very wealthy person's home and then insist they pay for my children's education. Sounds crazy to me, but I guess not to this judge. I wonder if the judge has enough money to properly educate my children?

It's all the new rage - send bills to the parties responsible for our hardships. Go for it...all that can happen is that they refuse to pay. There's little more satisfying than putting traitors behind the

Ain't that the truth! I've seen this in action myself and I'm sure it's a major reason for the decline in education in this country.

You're not alone. It seems completely illogical that people would be rewarded for breaking the law. What have we come to?

Nobody's more like a grizzly bear than a mama whose children are being threatened or hurt! And rightly so. American children are being hurt in so many ways because of illegal immigration. In California public schools, American kids are beaten if they are not Hispanic and are often told to "go back to Africa" or "go back to Europe." They are frequently shuttled into a corner to read quietly while their teachers teach the Spanish-speaking students. When your child comes home and tells you that he was beaten up today because of his race, or he didn't learn anything today because the teacher was busy with the Spanish-speaking kids, well, what parent wouldn't be outraged? Mothers Against Illegal Aliens is a great idea, and should be supported.
