The editorial is only availible to NYTimes paying costumers. The editorial in today's local paper by Bob Herbert of the times had just one line of any note ..."This story is never going away.Harry Whittington is Dick Cheney's Monica....This will stick to Cheney like Crazy glue and that's bad news for the Bush administration."

Bad news? LOL more like energizing the base against the lamestream media. Yes please keep it up.
PLEASE - keep talking about it, Bob.
What they don't understand is that, no matter how un-PC it is, the fact that the victim didn't die, and isn't claiming Cheney intended to hurt him, will make this a one-liner. It's something Letterman will joke about forever because he hates Bush, but eventually people just won't care. (They hardly care now.)
They need to embrace a "Stop Jihad Now!" pose to have any hope of a future.
Lets see how hard they report on the Union Lobbyists spending millions more on political support then on their own union members... that story will be breaking next week... but all the media will do is stick with Cheney..
Dead story walking.
Considering Cheney has too many health issues to think about running for President, I really don't see the point. It is not like he is going to be impeached over this. If for some reason Cheney would resign, I don't see that as a positive development for Democrats.
Duh! In order for Mrs. Clinton to become our next POTUS the current VPOTUS be come do-o-o-o-wn.
Now is the time to start placing the bets.
Ol' Bob's got a future in absurdist comedy writing, I see.
Obvious the press is ignoring the comments by Mr. Whittington after his release from the hospital. He called this an accident and all seems forgiven. The press should do the same because it does not concern them or any of the rest of us......I know that would be expecting too much from the left
I just talked to my mother. She said everyone she knows is saying how the Media is making a fool of themselves.
"How long can the press keep it up?"
For as long as they are irrelevant.
Chney's retiring after 2008. Much as I regret that decision Cheney has no career to "blight." No one cares about a hunting accident -- except the lamestream media. And the more they flog this story the less relevant they will appear.
In a month no one will recall this
he is alot of things journalist is not one
Calling this accident a scandal on par with Monica-gate demonstrates just how desperate the Leftist are.
People are laughing at the New York Times and other papers that are trying to keep this alive. They are a joke.
Something tells me that Mr.Whittington may not appreciate seeing that in print.
Honestly though, these guys can`t be that stupid. What is it about being a lib that causes all rationality to vanish.
Not an image I really wanted in my mind...and probably not one the Vice President or Mr. Whittington would want in their minds, either.
there is only one reason Herbert has his job
Agreed. Wait until they start exploring Rush's theory about Harry having died, and the double they are now using.
A near tragic accident which the VP took full responsibility for is the same as the President committing perjury and lying to the American people. Mmm Hmm. I can see the similarity. /sarcasm/
"I read all his columns reprinted in our local paper. He is part of the kook left conspiracy theory DU mob."
I think most of them are part of the that crowd....
It really is astonishing. Remember how we used to glom on to every Clintonian outrage (Monica, Kathleen Willey, Juanita Brodrick, Chinagate, the Rose Tree billing records, Whitewater, John Hwang, Charlie Trie, Jim McDougal's "heart attack," Ron Brown, that female government employee who was found dead in her office with excrement all over the walls, the W-88 warhead, the Los Alamos security breaches, the Escalante National Park, the 800 FBI files, the pardons, etc., etc., ad nauseum, ad infinitum) wondering when one would generate some heat within the MSM, and it never happened? All we got was story after story about how his approval rating just jumped another five points?
And now we have a situation where the entire main-stream media, lock, stock and barrel are dashing off as one body, as a single corpus, chasing every single remote opportunity, no matter how feeble, no matter how laughable, in a mad rush to find something to hang around this president's neck.
It's really mind boggling. In the long run, it's going to ruin the MSM, change it forever. It'll never be the same. Unless, of course, the actually can find something that sticks.
This story won't stick to Cheney like Vince Foster sticks to Hildebeast.
The common man instinctively feels for his fellow man in the face of a tragic accident. The mediots are braying jackasses who are trying to savage a good man who has had his heart put under tremendous stress this week. If I didn't know better I'd swear they don't care how they do him in, literally or figuratively, as long as they get the job done.
Bob Herbert Who?
Sure enough. Bob is a professional journalist, with a degree and everything.
From a correspondence school...
The NYT can talk about it all they want. The public hasn't been interested in this story since Day 3.
75% of the the public could care less.
Did they ever find those Korans that were flushed down the toilets at Gitmo?? Oh yeah, fake again.
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
FOX's position is clearly not the same as the rest of the MSM, and anyone who dismisses the body-blow FOX's existence has struck against the media is deluded. The fact that the rest of the media snarkily refer to FOX as they do only proves that the rest of the media are all in bed together. (Someone posted a cartoon of a republican elephant in bed with a woman labelled FOX and in the next bed, a republican donkey is in the sack with CBS, CNN, ABC, NBC, NYT, etc, all of whom are shouting "Slut!" at FOX. Sums it up perfectly.)
The MSM are dying as the sole interpreter of the facts, and they know it, and anyone denying it is whistling past the graveyard.
Well .. if the story is never going away .. it will prove once again that the old media still has a tin ear when it comes to the public's opinion of the event.
According to Chris Wallace today - Cheney's numbers are still good - the general public is not turning away from Cheney and Cheney is not a drag upon the President's numbers. 51% of the public did not have a problem with the incident. So it turns out it just the old media who has the problem.
If they continue this .. they can kiss 2006 goodbye NOW!
I think your mother is right. When it was still a rather new story my 20 year old granddaughter was listening to the Wash. press corps question the press secretary. She was laughing hysterically at the questions and the ignorance displayed by the press, and she is not particularly politically astute.
I think they are trying to cause Cheney to have a heart attack. Moonbats love to cause death.
"How long can the press keep it up?"
Until they loose all readers. They are doing a fantastic job of sending thier customers elsewhere.
Does he really believe people are as interested in a hunting accident story as they are in a story about sex?
I think a revival and a through review of Ted Kennedy's negligent homicide of Mary Jo Kopechne would be MUCH more interesting to the public. I would like to know how much money various people were paid, for one thing.
Cheney's going nowhere...especially over this trivial incident.
