NBC's Gregory Eats Crow

NBC White House correspondent David Gregory ate a little crow Sunday on this "Meet The Press," apologizing for his arrogant behavior during White House press briefings dealing with the shooting of a hunting companion by Vice President Cheney.

Reacting to the storm of criticism leveled by the public at the Washington press corps for complaining that they were not told immediately about the incident, leaving the job of reporting it to a small-town Texas newspaper, Gregory apologized for his boorish behavior.

"I think I made a mistake,” he told host Tim Russert. "I think it was inappropriate for me to lose my cool with the press secretary representing the vice president. I don’t think it was professional of me. I was frustrated, I said what I said, but I think that you should never speak that way, as my wife reminded me, number one. And number two, I think it created a diversion from some of the serious questions in the story, so I regret that. I was wrong, and I apologize.”

But Gregory quickly reverted to type complaining that another guest, Mary Matalin, "and others in the White House have been eager to stoke this as a false debate between the vice president and the White House press corps, attempting to cast this as the White House press corps is a ping-pong in the culture wars.”

Then, in a comment that once again revealed how remote the Washington media has become from the American people, he made the astounding comment that "No matter how you feel about the White House press corps -— and we’re worthy of criticism, and we can take our lumps —- this is about how the vice president chooses to communicate to the American people. We are a proxy for the American people. Whether you have faith in us or not, and we do make mistakes, we are still a proxy. This is about how the vice president chooses to communicate to the public. My view is not that I should have been informed or others should have been informed. It’s not about that. It’s a question of, "Does the vice president have a responsibility to the American people to inform them of his public and private activities?”

Gregory is attempting damage control to ease the cold shouldering he's gonna get from the Pres. at the next press conference.

"S: (n) proxy, placeholder, procurator (a person authorized to act for another) "

Yes, I ask again: who provided the 'authority'? This MSM robot is the perfect example of why this medium is dying.

I think Gregory should ask Timmy to ask him to be on NEXT week AGAIN so he can make an apology.

David Gregory is a lying, lazy POS.

He sits on his a** waiting to be handed stories. He is mad because he and his other lazy buddies were not spoon fed this story.

Then he gets upset when a small Texas paper breaks this story.

Think about it though.Who would have ever guessed that we would see something like that in print 20 years ago.

"as my wife reminded me"

I would have thought that David Gregory was the "wife".

"small-town Texas newspaper? It was the Corpus Christi Caller Times, for heaven's sake!"

Let's see. My adoptive hometown is just under 300,000 in population. The Caller Time's circulation area is probably close to 500,000. Small town paper? You be the judge. I don't think so.

As much as I disagree with the CaCa Times editorial board (they can even match the NY Slimes in being gullible for buying every argument a leftist makes). It pissed me off for the likes of the East Coast elite media (IE David Gregory) to single them out as being an outpost for a bunch of Hicks.

I saw him this morning while I was working out and it was a beautiful thing to behold. I'm guessing someone at NBC must have yanked a knot in his tail.

It’s a question of, "Does the vice president have a responsibility to the American people to inform them of his public and private activities?”

I thought that the private life/ activities of the Pres or Vice Pres are none of the public's business? That was the argument during BJ Clinton's impeachment proceedings. Or is that just for Democrats?

Bigger than "small-town". But a Double-A town, nonetheless.

And, when you're in the "big leagues", like the Washington press corps and serve as "a proxy for all Americans"...

I cringe every time one of these media idiots or the political pundits start out a sentence with "The American people feel...."

Like we ALL feel the same...and like they have a CLUE how anyone outside their elitest groups feels about anything...

Whatever, Gregory. You and the whole lot of you overpaid network "news" people are nothing but a joke. You have no objectivity, period. The networks could save a ton of money by firing the lot of you--Moran, Gregory, Roberts, Bill Plante, Katie Couric, all of you and finding some objective folks--instead of camera-mongering posers or nit-picking liberal hacks.

No, I think you ARE a mistake, David. No news organization that valued its reputation would have hired you in the first place.

This was a private incident on private property, it was none of their business!

As opposed to an attempted rape in the Oval Office, which the mediacrats dutifully informed us was none of our business.
