Posted on 02/21/2006 12:23:22 PM PST by cgk
Posterboard is up on screen showing translations of what Saddam and Tariq Aziz said on the tapes released this weekend at the Intelligence Summit. It sounds like former UN inspector Tierney is the one reading the translations.
Clarification: This is from SATURDAY's summit, but CSPAN is showing it now.
it is not necessary to suspect a country... anyone can do it, an American near the White House.
View of the audience shows something like a dozen people in a large room. Shocker.
I mean, if actually, there is going to be destruction, I think our position is not going to be strong. The others are going to say that ths is true, the five are not going to accept.
(tariq has been on board as supporting bio and chem warfare as well as nukes)
Confirmed: Tierney is speaking. They just showed him. He's MAD.
"Just how long is it going to take for them to get the material, folks? Simply because we don't have the evidence sitting on our face? That means we can't say it occurred? That's pathetic! we have to have a little bit more respect for our enemies. "
What do the tapes say? Any revelation?
I love this guy!
He almost came through the screen and slapped Colmes the other night!
Check this out.
Tariq Aziz is a Catholic.
Everyone said 'hey there was no relationship between Saddam and terrorists. when discussing the use of bio weapons, he refers to the US Bio Weapons institute similar to Al Hakim. That's Ft Detrick.
Now, after the anthrax letters made their way to various locations, Stephen Hatfield temporarily a subject in the anthrax case had previously worked at Ft Detrick. Somebody, somewhere pointed the finger at him.
We just have Tariq Aziz saying "hey biological's the best way. they HAVE this institute so they can use that as the explanation for why it happened, and lo and behold, Stephen Hatfield was pinned. The man was innocent. He was never tried. And they still haven't figured out where those anthrax letters came from. Not in the legal sense at least."
Yep - he's my HERO. :)
Calling it an unflattering portrait would be a major understatement. Apparently, Tierney thinks that Hatfill mailed the letters on Saddam's behalf.
GRR... I missed the beginning, which was most of this. They're now bringing on experts to discuss this: Yosef Bodansky first.
From what Tierney just said about Hatfill, I didn't get that impression at all.
Hatfield = Hatfill
Jack Shaw on now... fmr Dep. Defense Undersec for Int'l Tech Security 2001-04.
Shaw: confirming earlier on the tapes that the Russians knew where things were.
With this crowd, who knows exactly what's real and what's disinformation.
Press questions now.
Q: "Did I infer correctly that you believe that the anthrax letters were an attack on the US by Iraq with Hatfill being used as the proxy."
Loftus: Yes. I think there's one other point about anthrax. Saddam had a large anthrax dispersal, a group of airplanes that would (check?)train our pilots with big belly tanks. He obviously was preparing to use anthrax, through crop dusters. The first thing that Mohammed Atta did when he came to this country was to try and buy crop dusters. That was his first attack. Apparently, he already had the anthrax. So it's not a long reach to say Saddam may have given anthrax to quote, 'the others', to the proxies he was going to use to attack America. It's not that far a reach at all in view of these tapes.
I'm having trouble following this well... my 3 year old is bouncing on my lap while I try to transcribe LOL... see post #23 - it does sound at least, from Loftus, that they consider Hatfill may have been a proxy...
ping to #23
How much press is there and who is it?
Bodansky: the kind of anthrax in the attacks was the kind states keep, not something an amateur would make in his garage.
There are probably a dozen people in the room, it's a disgrace IMO... haven't heard press announce their names, yet.
It has something to do with John Loftus, former Justice Department prosecutor. He was the one that the tapes were given to. I don't understand the whole ramifications but for some reason he is known as a KOOK. Since he headed up this summit a lot of people pulled out.
The theory is pretty confusing to say the least. I wonder if instead of "proxy" what they're really trying to say instead is "patsy".
Press Q: "I have read Jayna Davis' book and she does present at the very least extremely strong circumstantial evidence that the Iraqis were involved in OKC and that the FBI did their very best to discourage her. ... If not the FBI, who... and how soon do you think we may be able to find something about the OKC connection?"
A: (Tierney): "I have some add'l info on that. During the Desert Shield time frame, in Kuwait, what the Iraqis did is they, all these Kuwaitis wanted to leave Kuwait and get into Saudi Arabia. They wouldn't let 'em go. They kept them there. There would be 50, 60, 70 and they just leave 'em there. And they wouldn't let 'em go back into Kuwait City. Once you went to the border, you were under their control and they made a little kind of camp there. Then all of a sudden they opened the gates and 200 people would come across the border. Now the reason they did that is because they were using the time to build, to get their infiltrators, either trained Iraqi agents or Kuwaitis that they took their mother, put a gun to their head and said 'you're going to go into Kuwait, you're going to go into Saudi Arabia... you're going to find X, Y and Z'. And then they have this big mass of people making it harder to screen, to spot these guys. Now I worked with the Kuwaitis and we were able to catch some of these guys after the fact. It's one thing to keep in mind.
After the war, at the Joint Interrogation Facility West, I was there I either screened or interrogated a few hundred Iraqis. One of the themes that came up was that in that flow, we're talking ten thousand people there, the people who were cooperating with us were very concerned of Iraqis agents being infiltrated into their midst. Another thing to consider.
During 1992 and 1993, the army sent me back to school. I was in Salt Lake City. I was not happy with the instruction for improving my spoken Arabic, so I ran into some Iraqi refugees that where there under some cherry programs. So I spent a lot of time with these guys, and boy did I learn a lot of things.
But one of the things I learned was that ... they brought up, on their own, was that they were VERY concerned about Iraqi intelligence agents IN the United States out to hunt them down and kill them. Another thing for your consideration.
In 1995 I was stationed at the 3rd Armored Corps of Ft Hood Texas, the OKC bombing happens within hours I and another Arabic linguist are alerted: "You're going up to Oklahoma City, you're going to help out." Ok. I get ready, get ready to go, we're about out the door, they said "Oh... don't worry about it. They know what really happened." Okay, yes sir. Three bags full. Now...
You put all that together and you read Jayna Davis' book, which I would highly encourage to everyone here, and you have to think. You know Saddam has said the war is ongoing. You know that he had his clock cleaned in a conventional fight so he doesn't want to do that again. But if you are waging war against an enemy it makes sense that you take action against your enemy.
So, there you go.
ping to #32 :)... nearly forgot to alert you!
Thanks for this ping, cgk. Appreciate it.
Ken Timmerman is there.. just heard a name finally.
Welcome. I wish there was a transcript, or a video. Transcribing is hard! ;)
Russia helped Iraq hide and move WMD. Clear evidence of complicity.
"Roger Simon... Pajamas Media."
well there you have it. :D
Just watched this.....finally we are starting to get some answers...even Ok city, maybe...

I sure hope so. I missed the beginning of the presentation, so am trying to find out if it will re-air.
The room was well filled then many left for other sessions....
Pinging some others....thanks for starting this.
I was going to ask you if that was an actual transcript. I didn't much understand the first part at all, but I did the last part. Thanks for your efforts.
Thanks for the ping.
Thank you for remembering :-)
May we find that word is slowly leaking out about Saddam's use of proxies in OKC and anthrax, etc.
You need to watch for a CSPAN replay of this.
Former military intelligence officer and Arabic expert Bill Tierney is the man who revealed the Saddam tapes, translating them somewhat differently from ABC/Nightline. In the first segment of Pajamas Medias coverage of the Intelligence Summit, we hear portions of Tierneys opening speech at the Summit followed by an interview which ends in a most surprising manner.
Source has links to both quicktime and windows media player videos.
Roger Simon from Pajamas Media was at the Summit and on CSPAN asking questions at the end. This portion includes the part of the speech that I transcribed above as well as a portion before that I missed before I found the show.
