Illegal aliens robbed trying to cross into U.S.

FROM STAFF REPORTS Feb 21, 2006, 9:23 pm

Forty-four illegal aliens were robbed twice Tuesday morning, first on their way into the United States and again once they crossed the border.

The Yuma County Sheriff's Office responded at 8 a.m. to County 18-1/2 Street and the Colorado River near Gadsden for the group who had been apprehended by the Border Patrol. Those in the group said they had been robbed in Mexico and then robbed again after they crossed the border.

"I don't know of anything they could have had left," said YCSO Capt. Eben Bratcher.

YCSO said the second robbery occurred just across the border. The illegal aliens were lined up and searched at gunpoint by four unknown suspects. The suspects were looking for wallets and any other items of value, YCSO said.

"It was the same modus operandi (as previous robberies)," Bratcher said. "They wait for them, they rob them and then they run back across the border."

Bratcher said the Sheriff's Office learns of only a fraction of the total number of these robberies. He said the agency is only notified when illegal aliens are apprehended by Border Patrol, as they were in this case, and then say they were robbed.

"How many are occurring and go unreported?" Bratcher said. "I'm sure that's a significant number. If you are here illegally, the last thing you are going to do if you get robbed is call the cops."

YCSO said none of the victims were injured, and all were being sent back to Mexico by Border Patrol. Bratcher said the double robbery showed there was clearly more than one group attempting to rob illegal aliens crossing the border.

Probably the only way to get cops on the border...rob the illegals.

Man, it seems like I'm taking a beating for posting this. I posted this so people could see the daily flood of illegals crossing the border near my home in Yuma. I have no sympathy for these guys at all. They cross illegaly, they take the risk of croaking in the desert, or getting robbed. Personaly I think it's a waste of time and resources for the Yuma County Sherrifs Office to be investigating a robbery that took place feet from the border on people who have no bussines being here in the first place.

Not from me you're not. I was just being sarcastic but it wasn't directed towards you, but at the article. Any sympathy I might have had for illegals is long gone.

I posted this so people could see the daily flood of illegals crossing the border near my home in Yuma.

I'm not as close to the border as you are (I'm in L.A.) You have my sympathies when it comes to dealing with illegal aliens.

As others have noted, many are trying to get into the US to be here when the amnesty program starts. Every time we suggest amnesty, it's like Congress proposing a gun ban. Everyone tries to get things lined up for the change.

On the crime thing, illegals are big targets for criminals. First, they keep all their cash on them, at least until they wire it back to Mexico. Second, they tend to deal with other people who break the law. Third, crooks know they're not going to complain to the police. Fourth, if a crook kills them, there won't be any relatives at the police department demanding investigation. Frequently, their families never find out what happens to them. They just never come home. There are a lot of illegals buried in unmarked pauper's graves in Texas.

Awwwwwww, don't worry Juan and Julio. After you're DEPORTED back to Mexico you can call the Mexican cops and get robbed a third time.

You nailed it. When one decides to become a criminal, he assumes the risks that go along with his criminal activity. These criminals were lucky that’s all that happened to them.

It isn't you, personally. Just that, if you're the one to post the thread, you'll typically be the one to get the most replies, so you'll see most everyone's take on the story you posted. Posters are replying to the story, but they're posting the reply to you, so it can feel alot like they're crashing on you when they're really not. As long as posting the thread isn't the ONLY place on FR where your screen name appears, you'll be fine.

ZOT happens, but usually only to "drive-by" posters and obvious purveyors of vapid leftspeak.

Rock on.

This can't be happening. Aren't guns basically illegal in Mexico?

If the criminals have guns they are breaking the law in Mexico, and again when they cross the border in the US with them.

I think the guns should be made "illegaler". That will fix the problem.

(Do I really need the sarcasm tag?)

Wetbacks robbed

DILLIGAF

I don't. If they would have stayed home it wouldn't have happened. I'm much more concerned about them coming here to rob us.

If they had not committed a crime, then they would not have become victims of a crime. . . . No tears here.

Granted, the illegals aliens were breaking the law.

However, those who would rob them at gunpoint would gladly rob you or me. (Especially since you and I probably have more to take.) Gaining control of the border means taking action against all types of illegal activity, regardless of the identity of the victims.

I don't think you're "taking a beating..."

People are noticably sarcastic because of the high degree of both frustration and obviousness in the issues here. Thus, there's more venting and irony on the thread than anything else, but it's not directed toward YOU, just the issues...

That's what they apparently suspect.

You are right. Illegal aliens unless they are lucky or really smart, streetwise or otherwise are virtual slaves. Employers, landlords, and others treat them however they want to- knowing they can't/won't report them to authorities.

There are many reasons I am against illegal entry into this country:

1. Absolute security of the border is necessary to keep out terrorists, and dangerous criminals. Some of the illegal crossers may be terrorists, or dangerous criminals there is no way to know.

2. Criminal activity is increased in general by illegal entry. Illegals often smuggle in drugs or commit other crimes in order to pay the coyote who brought them in. All of the border problems are related, it is a vicious network.

3. Burden on our legal, medical, educational, and social system. People who enter illegally are "out of the system" which means there is no, or not enough funding available to cover the cost of their medical care, education for their children, or any of the other services they may require while they are here.

4. Most illegals compete with our blue collar laborers and our children for entry level jobs. It is an unfair competition because they will work for less money, and poor or unsage working conditions. This stagnates wages and degrades workplace conditions in the fields they enter in large numbers, like agriculture, construction, and service jobs. Even in jobs that pay the same, if it is cash under the table, the employer will give preference to the illegal to save the payroll burden. If they are on a payroll the employer knows they will put up with more on the job. This gives illegals an unfair advantage over our own workers.

5. In my opinion the system of hiring illegals is similiar to slavery. They are cheated and mistreated by many because they can't go to the authorities. I am against slavery, and the mistreatment of humans I see with the illegal alien situation.

6. I think illegal entry into this country should be stopped, because it is illegal. If we choose to enforce certain laws and not others, it is simply not fair. Allowing illegal entries destroys the sovereignty of our nation. We sure can't waltz into Mexico or any other country illegally and get a job, put our kids in school, use their social programs. They simply don't allow it and neither should we.

Thank you for posting this, I am sorry you feel you are taking a beating for it. I think most are posting to the article and not so much personally to you.

You are right in posting this type of article, articles like this bring attention to the many problems on the border, which is the only way people will become concerned enough to work towards a solution. For too long those of us on the border have understood the issues, but because of lack of reporting, those away from the border did not know the truth or understand how it impacts them.

The article you posted also highlights how other criminal activity is related to illegal crossing. I have little doubt if an American wandered near those bandits waiting to rob the illegals, they very well could become victims of the criminals who are there to prey on the illegals. Most criminals of this type are not too selective when a good target appears.

Hang in there, word is getting out, and understanding of the issues is spreading. That is progress in the right direction. Keep the faith, and keep posting articles that bring attention to the border problems.
