What a foolish statement - Does the writer actually think the people are running from Mexico for the opportunities here, and want to use those opportunities to turn THIS country back into Mexico ?

Ever seen what happens when a town is overrun with Mexican illegals? The more the signs change to spanish the crappier the neighborhood gets.

I will forever despise Bush for his AWOL policy on immigration - the Government's attitude towards this very serious problem borders on treasonous. It's long past time that this issue was addressed for what it is - an out-and-out invasion of our homeland. Something needs to be done - NOW.

Are you listening, Mr. President?

No, I don't think that is what he is trying to get across. It is not the individual illegal alien that wants to turn the Southwest into Mexico, it is the Mexican Govt. using the illegals to do this. The individual illegal is a pawn in his dangerous game. Those in power in Mexico need the money that is sent back by illegals, so they may remain in power. Corruption is rampant and so deeply embedded in Mexican Govt that it affects their economy. Without the money that comes in from illegals Mexico's economy would crumble faster than you can say taco. I believe the Mexican Govt has no other choice than to push it's people to migrate north, they can't provide an economy that will sustain their population, and in pushing migration, they may accomplish their goal of "Reconquista".

Yep, illegals shouldn't be here. But the store owner would be a fool to not cater to his customers. ... and gee, illegals don't get good, high paying jobs that allows them to keep their neighborhoods up, plus send money back home ? Who'da thunk it ?
( another good reason to deport ALL illegals )

By your own reasoning, they would be killing the goose that lays them the golden eggs. People in their OWN economy can't generate those funds, and they know it.

Bud, this is only the start for you. Here in occupied California, the whole thing takes on a different flavor. Wait until your local stores start replacing english signs with Spanish. You'll get religion.

"It amazes me that the children of illegal aliens are loyal to the country that their parents left."

I lived in mx 1991-2004 and I can tell you the MX people are loyal to their country. I have never seen a MX burn their flag. The kids go to school in the summer just for one purpose to raise the flag and play their national anthem. I have never seen an American flag flown in MX. The news media is always showing Americans and presenting Americans as mistreating nationals. There is a great deep seated hatred for America. Just live there for a while you will see it everywhere.

Agreed, but we may have to throw the party-line wigs some kind of down-the-road FT bone to get 'er done. You think?

You figure it out...

There are some people that think we should give the land back to the Indians ... so ?
With the millions of illegals up here ( all of whom should be tossed out BTW ) a few hundred wave flags and protest for the hungry TV cameras and I should get worried they are invading to conquer us ? ...Hardly

"With the millions of illegals up here ( all of whom should be tossed out BTW ) a few hundred wave flags and protest for the hungry TV cameras and I should get worried they are invading to conquer us ? ...Hardly"

What some here fail to understand is there are two seperate communities of what are refered to as Mexican in the Southwest, and both are deeply resentfull of each other.

One community consists of families that have been in the Southwest for 400 years. The other consists of families that have come here illegaly. The resentment stems from the illegals seeing these American Hispanics doing well, the fact that they have assimilated into American society, the fact that they are proud to be Americans, and the fact that these families feel no connection to Mexico. The American Hispanics resent the illegals because their failure to obey our laws, and their failure to assimilate causes Anglo Americans to paint a broad stroke on all Hispanics in the Southwest.

This resentment is very real. My grandmother helped me to realize just how real it is when I was in Junior High. My American history teacher said that we were Mexican Americans and we should be proud of that heritage. I told my grandmother this when I got home, and she gave me a lecture I will never forget, but one that took time for me to see what she was talking about. She told me that we were not Mexican, we were Americans and that our heritage was Spanish. She said we have nothing in common with Mexicans, except for our 2nd language, and that she wanted nothing to do with "being Mexican". I thought this was harsh at the time and didn't understand what she was saying. I just filed it away as the ramblings of an old woman and left it at that. Later on in life after living in Ca, and Az for awhile I realized that she was right.

The Hispanic culture I grew up with as a kid in Northern New Mexico was very different from the Mexican culture I was witnessing in Ca, and Az. I realized that I had grown up with the remnants of Spanish Colonial Culture, and this difference I think also fuels the resentment between the two communities.

My grandmother was a wise woman, and she based her lecture to me on New Mexico History. I just wish she was here today so I could thank her.

"By your own reasoning, they would be killing the goose that lays them the golden eggs. People in their OWN economy can't generate those funds, and they know it."

I think this proves my point. Because of the rampant corruption Mexico is backed into a corner, they need this money to stay solvent, and the migration push accomplishes two things, it rids Mexico of the obligation to provide a decent economy for it's people, and it satisfies the the peoples revenge feelings for the loss of teritory to the U.S.

You are correct that in the end "Reconquista" would not solve their problem, (it would more than likely make it worse) the only thing that would solve Mexico's problem is a giant house cleaning. But I don't see hell freezing over any time soon.

"But I don't see hell freezing over any time soon."

If we toss back the ones who have snuck up here, in many cases risking their lives in order to work to make a better life for their families, THESE are the people who would have the best chance of making changes down there.

Now, if you are poor down there, but have ambition and are not afraid of work, your best bet is to try to come up here - take that away and they just might stay home and make things better in Mexico.

I completely agree, but I think nothing short of a shooting revolution will change Mexico. Mexico has no business being a "Third World" county. The natural resource wealth they have is the envy of the developing world. But the corruption prevents these resources from being utilized to improve Mexico's future. The Mexican people need to wake up and change this, but I just don' see it happening any time soon.

." I've found that people who don't respect laws have a sense of arrogance about them. "

Feelings nurtured and encouraged by the entire American Left, which includes of course, the MSM and a very educational system their children are attending.

"It's bad for them, and it's bad for us. I say shut it down until and unless they allow us to own land and operate businesses down there."

Your statement is a bit flawed. If they give us the wonderful opportunity of owning land and operating businesses in Mexico than you think it's OK for our borders to be wide open? That would be a horrendous trade, much to our disadvantage.

"There is a great deep seated hatred for America. "

Not too surprising. Most of the world appears to be like that. First, we have more than they're jealous of it and they want what we have. Second of all, the worldwide organized hard left (WOHL) systematically spreads message of hate for America around the planet---because we are the main bulwark against them.
