President Arroyo of Philippines declared State of Emergency Friday claiming a coup was planned. Some arrests and raids (one on a newspaper) since. Today the Commandant of the Marine Corps resigned and a colonel came out in support of him saying he was forced out. Armed marines surrounded him at headquarters with a brigadier general saying the colonel would be arrested. Civilians are being urged to come out in support (people power). Police are trying to drive people away from the scene. The armed Marines are in support of the colonel according to the colonel.

Standoff continues with former President Corazon Aquino going to Fort Bonafacio, scene of the standoff to "pray for a peaceful solution." Aquino has called on Arroyo to resign
because of the allegations of corruption surrounding her.

I would guess its a nutty Filipina.

You may also want to see my new thread
Tribune Offices Raided, from the affected newspaper. The link to the newspaper gives quite a few additional details.
It looks pretty bad for Gloria. She does sound like "a nutty Filipina", but after 2.5 weeks in the Philippines (just got back a couple of days ago), I really grew to love nutty Filipinas. One of them, when told of my ambition to move near the ocean, said "But I'm afraid of seamonster!" You can't make up something like that.
Anyway, I don't think I like what this particular nutty Filipina is doing, so I'm going to make an exception in this case :-(.
Unless, of course, she's really facing a serious coup, and it's originating from the Tribune staff. I find that hard to believe at this point, but that's the only thing that would make this make any form of sense.

'twould be hard not to be paranoid. What're you doing in the PI ?
I was there a couple times as an Army brat with my dad (we lived in Yokohama) in the late 1950s.

You can't live in the PI without one.

Well, perhaps not so far-fetched. If the NYT had the power of our Marines behind them, they would order the lynching of President Bush in Times Square and anoint one Hillary R. Clinton as Commander in Chief.
Fortunately, most Americans see through the MSM and know the seamonsters are DEMS and LIBERALS and we are not afraid of them - BRING 'EM ON!

I was a Marine on active duty when the Bent One was anointed and it was almost the other way around.
