I guess Sadr has come to the conclusion that if there is a civil war, he loses. He doesn't give a damn about Iraq, only his powerbase.
Mookie is the leader of the poor, the power of the mob, the uneducated.
He is the de facto leader of the rabble.
He is not a national leader in the democratic sense. Someone should have taken him down a while ago. It only becomes a bigger problem for Iraq moving forward. In fact his people were the ones running around shooting up mosques and doing drive bys.
Now he is the "voice" for unity. Well isn't that special.
Al Sadr calls for Iraqi Unity (Returns from Iran
...against the infidels.
Great news!! Especially since the new government has not been formed yet.
Now the Sunnis (sectarian and/or secular), having finally realized that AQ is not the answer, will have to choose between going to bed with sectarian Mookie (could they be that dumb?), or joining with secular oriented leaders (Shiite and Sunni), to form a more secular government. A long predicted "moment of truth" for the Sunni and for Iraq. U.S. Ambassador is playing his role perfectly.
My view is that the Sunni will go with the secular option. Then what will Mookie do with his militia? How far will he go? How will Sistani react? --- Get U.S. troops out of the the way and get the popcorn!
