Saddam Had WMD ( What the Damning Tapes tell us )

Saddam Had WMD

Now that Leno and Letterman have had their way with Vice President Cheney's hunting accident and the port controversy, maybe we can get back to something really important — like Saddam's WMD program.

Yes, the linchpin of opposition to the Iraq War — never really strong to begin with — has taken some real hits in recent weeks. And "Bush lied" — the anti-war mantra about the president, Saddam Hussein and weapons of mass destruction — looks the most battered.

Inconveniently for critics of the war, Saddam made tapes in his version of the Oval Office. These tapes landed in the hands of American intelligence and were recently aired publicly.

The first 12 hours of the tapes — there are hundreds more waiting to be translated — are damning, to say the least. They show conclusively that Bush didn't lie when he cited Saddam's WMD plans as one of the big reasons for taking the dictator out.

Nobody disputes the tapes' authenticity. On them, Saddam talks openly of programs involving biological, chemical and, yes, nuclear weapons.

War foes have long asserted that Saddam halted his WMD programs in the wake of his defeat in the first Gulf War in 1991. Saddam's abandonment of WMD programs was confirmed by subsequent U.N. inspections.

Again, not true. In a tape dating to April 1995, Saddam and several aides discuss the fact that U.N. inspectors found traces of Iraq's biological weapons program. On the tape, Hussein Kamel, Saddam's son-in-law, is heard gloating about fooling the inspectors.

"We did not reveal all that we have," he says. "Not the type of weapons, not the volume of the materials we imported, not the volume of the production we told them about, not the volume of use. None of this was correct."

There's more.

I'm sure this required great deception skills, like playing "peek-a-boo" with a 3 month old.....

What the Damning Tapes tell us

They don't mean a damn thing. I recall listening to slick willy tell a group of people that he turned down an offer from the Sudan for Osama. Yet, the 9/11 Commission never mentioned it in their report because they didn't have ANY evidence that he actually tuned the offer down.

Not even his OWN VOICE was good enough.

I am getting the NYT stragtegy rady.
All of Saddam's Generals and scientists just told him what he wanted to hear, that they had WMDs.
Actually, they realized the folly of messing with the Clinton Administration and especially with Hillary because they knew that she would be President in 08'. So, Bush did lie because there never were really WMDs.

Ready Set Go.....What is the over/under before the NYT or DU starts saying this?

I like the fact that the truth of the WMD's is slowly creeping into the sunlight-- but ultimately I don't give a rat's ass if we find them or not-- or even if they existed at all.

Taking out Iraq was the right thing to do by any standard.

I was talking to a coworker not ten minutes ago.

He is convinced that Bush and Cheney are trigger happy drunks who were "eager" to go to war.

He's a real nice guy but he just refuses to believe the facts like those presented in this Op-Ed piece. For some reason the lefties just block out the truth if it contradicts their preconceived notions.

From the article:

Perhaps most chillingly, the tapes record Iraq Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz talking about how easy it would be to set off a WMD in Washington. The comments come shortly after Saddam muses about using "proxies" in a terror attack.

BUMP!

Let's do some post-mortem analysis of this:

The administration hasn't followed the bread crumbs here openly or in public.

Conclusions: The Administration never wanted to openly rock the boat with their war on terror 'ally' Putin...and bust him on this. Hence a deliberate backing away from the whole issue of WMD presence in the first place...lest it force such a revelation to the people and the Congress... This would have eventuated unavoidable reprecussions. This decision to shelter a conniving and duplicitous foreign nation reeks.

It practically cost the Administration the White House to the denmocrats. And what have we gained thereby? I'm still waiting for a reasonable explanation. But I can't begin to imagine one that isn't equally unacceptable.

It does appear that neither the President, nor Dems in Congress -- for different reasons -- wanted to look too closely at the fate of Saddam's WMDs.

Taking out Iraq was the right thing to do by any standard.

The really infuriating thing is the Clintonites in the CIA and the Democrat Controled Senate in 2002 sold the Admin on WMDS as a "Slam dunk" justification for war. People always forget the Senate was in DEMOCRAT hands during most of 2001 and all of 2002. After all the Dems spent most of 1998 and 1999 running around telling us how dangerous Saddam was! They are just relying on their stoodges in the Junk Journalist choir to cover up THEIR role in selling the "Saddam has WMDs" to the American People. Remember the intellegence about Saddam was MOSTLY developed by Clinton when they needed an excuse to bomb the hell out of Iraq during BJ's Impeachement in Dec 1998.

Difference between Libs and Conservatives is pretty straightforward.

Conservatives use facts in their arguments.
Liberals use emotion in their arguments.

If a Conservative said the sky was blue, a liberal would call that person a Nazi.

The Admin pushing this looks like BJ Clinton style self serving propaganda.

Really, and just how did that 'impression' you presume, become so entrenched that sudden revelations of the WMD realities would be discounted so thoroughly?

And remember this, when the Entire Establishment wanted rapprochement, or 'detente' with the Soviet Union, and believed that confrontation would be Armageddon...Ronald Reagan had the courage and the undeviating commitment to tell the TRUTH to the public, and openly said the unmentionable...that they were an Evil Empire.

Frankly it should take a whole lot LESS courage for Bush to say the politically incorrect, such as this: "Saddam's WMD's existed and were there...but we have reason to believe they were relocated before we could get to them." ??

As for Congress critters, I believe that both Duncan Hunter, Curt Weldon and J.D. Hayworth have been pushing on this WMD's "Lost" issue. The problem has always been the 'leadership' is completely disinterested in getting to the bottom of things. They like being PC. There is safety, they think, in being PC.

They are wrong. Sometimes, the truth just has to be told. For all our sakes.

"Saddam tapes"

Even if we secured a videotape of Hussein holding wmds in his arms and handing them off to the 9/11 bombers, Big Media would ignore it. They will fervently ignore all evidence showing Bush right and them wrong. They can't stand the truth...which now appears to be staring them in the face. Ignoring the facts and creating controversies elsewhere...the port flap...is their only defense.

We have so many indications that entire convoys of trucks headed from Iraq to Syria carrying much of Sadaam's WMD inventory just prior to our invasion. Some of this may have ended up in Lebanon (to give Syria deniability). This is a case where those who know aren't talking, and those who are talking don't know.

Pres. Bush can't defend himself here because this is super-classified National Security stuff. We're conducting geopolitical negotiations with the inheritors of the WMD's and holding them accountable.

The Russian-Iraq deal sounds very plausible. I'll bet the Bush admin strongly suspects or even knows of Russky involvement with the moving of and cleaning up of Hussein's wmds.

For obvious solidarity reasons, the Bush admin prefers not to roil the waters. They want the Russkies as allies in the war on terror, and may be willing to overlook their complicity with Hussein. But that makes them targets of the anti-America, American, leftist Big Media (the "Bush lied about wmds" crowd ) who won't print the truth for fear of helping Bush.

"sheepie of the left"<P) I would demand of your co-workers that they explain why the Clinton admin fervently proclaimed that Hussein had ready-to-go wmds and was Clinton then a liar for claiming so. Shove it in their faces and make them answer the question. Was their big hero Slick Willy (and Kerry, Kennedy, etal) a liar when he announced that Hussein had wmds and was willing to use them? The libs are experts at evading that question, so it must be constantly put in their mugs.

Well if there is proof of WMD then the left would hate it because then it proved that the administration was right to go to war.

But if there is proof of WMD where are they and who controls them, because we don't which means that they are still out there somewhere something the administration may not want you thinking about.

Generally, they say they read and watch all of them and that none of them have said a thing about what I have. When I show them something I found, they say, "I don't want to read your BS."

The minute they see something I was revealing to them weeks earlier, they say that it was not the same way that they are telling it now. They are hooked on the MSM and will not see anything different.
