Sen. Mark Dayton apologized Tuesday to Sen. John Thune and the people of South Dakota after telling Fortune magazine that Rochester's Mayo Clinic "is worth a hell of a lot more than the whole state of South Dakota." Dayton, D-Minn., was addressing Thune's role in expanding a federal loan program that would allow the South Dakota-based Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad to apply for a $2.5 billion loan for an upgrade project. The Mayo Clinic opposes that project, which runs through Rochester.
Thune, R-S.D., who lobbied for the railroad while campaigning for the Senate in 2004, condemned the comments Tuesday, calling them "unconscionable, offensive and wholly unbecoming of a United States senator."
"Unlike Senator Dayton, we may not all be millionaires in South Dakota, but we understand the value of hard work and appreciate real-world experience," he said.

We couldn't be more thrilled about his "decision" to not seek a second term. As if he had a chance.....
Go, Thune!
And Norm Coleman won't be getting my vote in '08, either.
The story is about Mark, not Norm. Norm doesn't get my vote for other reasons.
Sorry.
After "Puff Daddy" Daschel, Thune is a breath of fresh air.
I'd stand in line to hurl snide remarks at Little Markie Dayton. How much of his department store fortune did he spend to get elected ? $50 million ?
Something like that. Then he ran on the promise that he would not accept any pay for serving in the Senate.
Once elected, he discovered he was broke, and reneged.
Any one of the millions of prairie dogs in SD have more brains than lil' Marky Dayton. Hard to be embarrassed when you live in a socialist state full of nitwits, but Dayton manages to do it for us. What a putz.
Isn't it true that Dayton keeps his money in a trust in tax-free South Dakota? What a hypocritical moron.
Please, oh, please let this be true.
