His goal in life? Run the White House. Andrew Davis' goal for the week? Raise money for the newspaper he edits. "I just did a large expose on parking services." It's a conservative paper on Clemson's campus, pages known as delicious, conservative brain-food. "We make no qualms about being very biased of the right wing," he says. To help pay for printing costs, 20-year-old Andrew organized a raffle for a rifle: an AK-47. "We're hoping with this event to show people the AK-47 is no more dangerous than a knife or a car," he says.

Stashed in the basement of Clemson's library among thousands of books, on page 138 is Andrew's motivation. "The Second Amendment is one of our least appreciated that we have and probably the one that is most attacked. We hope this event will raise awareness for the Second Amendment," says Andrew. Not everyone on campus is pleased with the paper's idea. Andrew says he's heard from a faculty member and a student who plan to protest.

But he has found support from campus leaders. "The reaction from the administration has not been one to shut these people down but to let students exercise these rights," says Andrew. And that's a lesson this student hopes to take all the way to the White House. Raffle tickets go on sale February 27th through March 2nd. Organizers plan to offer them on campus near the main library from 9am until 3pm for a $5 donation. For more information you can e-mail Andrew at observr@clemson.edu

A number of colleges have competitive shooting teams. Even Yale teaches trap and skeet as physical activities. So yes, there are places for guns on colleges. The Constitution is still in effect on college campuses. In spite of what the academics say contrarywise.

The weapon is not actually on campus. Essentially, they are raffling off a voucher to be cashed in at the local gun store. Once there is a winner, he/she will need to go through all the legal channels to obtain the weapon. From my understanding, the weapon is not, nor will it ever be, on the campus. There is a weapons ban at Clemson. I do not believe it will even be purchased until there is a winner, and he/she passes the background tests, etc.

There is actually a competitive air-rifle team at Clemson. Though, to my knowledge, they are not involved with the raffle.

I cant afford HKs

I have 2 cetmes tho that I'd shoot against a G3

I cant see spending 1500 bucks for something that is the same as a 300 gun minus cosmetics

I love the Cetme design though heavy its like shooting a 22 in .308

requires some maintenence but so does the G3

So much fuss over one weapon. And to think this used to be a military school.

There is no place on a U campus for weapons automatic or otherwise.

Bulls**t. I had several guns in my dorm at Dartmouth, and shot them in the deep woods behind.

Guns belong anywhere men are free.

People just go nuts over the appearance of the AK, they see it as uber deadly.

There are far more deadly weapons out there, but the AK has reached Icon status amongst the masses.

They are great guns for what they are designed to do but people ascribe far more wow factor than they deserve.

I believe the one being auctioned is the semi-auto type. It is not even the full auto.

absolutly semi auto.

Youd have to have a class III liscence just to enter the drawing otherwise.

IMO full auto isnt value added, its spray and pray

So what's the point?

They could auction off the collected works of Bertrand Russell or the Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy or Theory of Wing Sections ISBN: 0486605868 by
I. H. Abbott.

All three of those book prizes would actually be useful to someone who was attending a University for a serious purpose beyond Frat Parties.

How does and AK/AK copy ad to your education?

I realize that it's South Carolina, so I'll try to get clarification...
Is it a "raffle", a "rifle", or a "raffle of a rifle"?

so if 1 % enter 150 entrants = 750 bucks

Thats a profit of 400 bucks on a 350 investment

Are you for real?

First off, guns are still legal. Your attitude only reinforces that guns are zaprescheny for the proletariat.

Besides, who the hell is going to buy raffle tickets for the collected works of Bertrand Russell?
