Gov. George Pataki remained hospitalized Monday nearly a week after undergoing a surgery to correct a postoperative complication related to an emergency appendectomy.

Pataki, 60, continued eating some food Monday but also remained on intravenous nutrition and antibiotics to reduce the risk of an abscess...

`The governor's doctors have indicated that there has been a slow return of normal digestive function because of the ruptured appendix,'' ...

Pataki was originally to be released two days after the Feb. 16 appendectomy.

``The governor continues to be in good spirits and is reading, walking around and conducting state business,'' ...

STAYING in the Hospital is NOT good for your health, unless you are REALLY sick.

I wish the Governor a healthy and speedy recovery.

I don't always agree with the Governor, especially when he leans left on an important, core, issue. But he's a good man.

He must be really sick. These days they discharge you from the hospital after eighteen hours even if you've had your head amputated.

"Intravenous feeding" not tube feeding, but intravenous. Wonder what that is? TPN?

Tube feeding means that the patient has a tube surgically installed to introduce food directly into his stomach. That's a more serious kind of thing than a simple IV delivering a solution to his bloodstream.

My son had an appendectomy recently and was out of the hospital in about 36 hours.

It sounds to me like they may have found something else besides a ruptured appendix. Maybe Colon cancer, or stomach cancer. Two weeks is a long time and unless he had the worst kind of peritonitis I don't get it.

"It sounds to me like they may have found something else besides a ruptured appendix."

Yes, there must be something seriously wrong with him. Ernie Fletcher of KY is still in the hospital too, although he may be sent home in a day or two, but he will still be on IV antibiotics. He had surgery for a gall stone and had complications and developed an infection.

I wish them both a speedier recovery than they've had so far.

Ruptured appendicitis is very serious. I know someone who almost died from that in her twenties.

I read some time ago that Ruptured appendicitis was the number one killer of men until the 1930's when penicillin was discovered.

Child birth was number one for women.

Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY) died of ruptured appendicitis just a couple of years ago.
