SAN FRANCISCO -- While it carries only symbolic weight, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors has taken another vote to draw the ire of conservatives across the nation. They have taken a vote to impeach President George Bush.
The board's vote was not the first in California. Santa Cruz has already passed such a measure while Watsonville's leaders approved a resolution last month that calls for the president to bring California National Guard troops home from Iraq.
Still it's San Francisco that has drawn criticism from national conservatives including Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly. Spurred on by O'Reilly's comments, Highland -- a small town of 50,000 people in San Bernardino County -- passed a resolution not to send any officials to San Francisco for state meetings.
"The City of Highland will not spend public money going to the City of San Francisco," said Highland city councilmember Jody Scott. "We will not spend one dime of public money."
The San Francisco Supervisors took the action by a 7-3 vote, they claim, because Bush has destroyed civil liberties in his wiretapping program, and failed miserably in his response to Hurricane Katrina.
"I think the case is clear, and I think it's appropriate for us to weigh in," Supervisor Chris Daly told the San Francisco Chronicle.
But only Congress can impeach the president, and no one there is attempting it.
Mayor Gavin Newsom, not one to shy away from controversy, said signing the resolution was not high on his priority list.
"It's probably going to shatter the status quo in this country when it passes,'' a joking Newsom told the Chronicle. "I imagine, immediately, Congress will probably convene into session and begin impeachment proceedings."
But one thing was for certain -- San Francisco would once again be fodder for conservative talk show hosts.
1 symbolic = 1x10e-15 mg.
Wow. They just keep on digging, don't they?
OK I vote to cancel SF's membership in the United States....
Time for a boycott. No battleship, gay marriage, the way they treat their cops, high taxes, I see a collapse coming.
"Ire" is only possible if one takes seriously the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
OTOH, I think I pulled a muscle rolling my eyes....
Fools!!!!
Coming? Violent crime is skyrocketing right now in "Baghdad by the Bay"...
Well, isn't that special. I suppose the fact that they have zero say in the matter doesn't bother them.
What a bunch of certified wackos! You couldn't pay me enough to live in that place!
These losers are so insignifacnt they don't deserve a posting. There is a procedure for impeachment; city resolutions don't play any part in them.
As a native San Franciscan, I am appalled that my Board of Stupidvisers let Santa Cruz beat them to the punch!! ;>)
Also, let me apologize to the rest of the country for the idiots who get elected here......trust me there are many normal people who live here who did NOT vote these idiots in! Please take pity of we Conservatives who live here trying to fight for peace, justice and the American way....it's not easy! And just think, we keep all the loons captive here (and in New York) so the rest of you are spared!! ;>) And also, a special thanks to all of you who resisted calling it Frisco.
L O L
Heck, I ALWAYS carry my Passport when I head through the Caldecott Tunnel on my way to SF or Berkeley. Never know when the border guards there might stop Americans to check. ;-)
Then again, if I drove a 1960s, exhaust-spewing VW bus with "McGovern for President" and "Viva La Raza" stickers on it, they'd let me through no questions asked!
I hope Bush gives them the finger.
I'll sign your petition.
LOL! A sense of humor does help when you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, doesn't it!! ;>)
Whatever.
Still it's San Francisco that has drawn criticism from national conservatives including Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.
Since when did Bill O'Reilly become a conservative? You'd have to actually care what these howling moonbats thought in order for it to rasie any ire.
Owl_Eagle(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
Says a lot more about the nitwits running S.F. than it does about the President IMO. One of these yo-yo's from S.F. was on Hannity and Colmes last week saying we don't need a military. Good thing they can only run S.F. into the ground and sad they don't realize that about 97% of the rest of the country thinks they are screaming lunatics.
Baghdad on the Bay. Are they still a declared haven for any Soldier who decides to AWOL as a C.O.??
Useful Infidels.
They've also said they don't want and would be better off without a military. I say we oblige and let them fend for themselves.
In the spirit of symbolic acts carrying no weight whatsoever, I hereby officially grant the San Fran Board of Supervisors the "Marxist Tools of the Year" award.
The surprise is that it took them so long!
Especially considering I grew up in Kennedy country! Between those drunken rum-runners and the (now quenched) Red Flops championship drought, I have a well-ingrained sense of "gallows humor" which my wife (a mid-westerner) just can't seem to figure out at times.
I just checked with some co-workers and we voted to impeach the SF board of supervisors. Means just as much.
Can we vote to send San Francisco to Outer Mongolia?
My sense of humor and my flame retardant suit are my two most valuable assets!! ;>) I come from a long line of smart alecs, and do believe being raised in San Francisco may have much to do with it!
I vote we try the SF Board of Supervisors for treason with a possible sentence of being hanged if found guilty.
If anyone would care to thank my City officials here is the email address
highland1@eee.org
I have it on good authority that the islamofanatics hate the SF liberals and the Liberal City Council will be the first ones taken out when they take over. If any are left over after they nuke the place though.
In a similar meeting, a group of cockroaches voted against light.
Why thank you for your thoughtful reasoned post! Half of your tagline seems most appropriate! ;>)
A bunch of liberal nitwits.
San Francisco is not part of the United States.
Yeah, right. The local junior high school civics club has voted to impeach the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Whatever.
I vote to declare war on the San Francisco Supervisors, invade, and pillage.
A final sortie for the USS Iowa? Turrets to starboard.
The day before Katrina hit I evacuated from St. Bernard Parish to Baton Rouge to stay with relatives. We were without power for a week, and not once did Bush bring us ice, or fuel for our generator. He failed miserably and yes he should be a peach.
Let's just quietly unhook the four bridges on the east/north side....
The next earthquake will release Freesco from the continent --- and before they can say "It's Bush's fault"... they will be miles out to sea....
(Actually it's the San Andreas... fault.... methinks)
Nice day...
That sounds like a plan
San Fran is a lovely city to visit (don't call it 'Frisco - they hate that). I visited on vacation in 2004. Stayed right down by the Hyde Street pier, ...um, the Argonaut Hotel, maybe? I'd visit again, but I would never talk politics with the locals!
