Whose children will be allowed to participate in the White Houses annual Easter Egg Roll on April 17? Not the sons and daughters of gay parents, if the Christian right gets its way.
In November, when the Family Pride Coalition, a D.C.-based gay rights advocacy group, invited its members to participate in one of the great traditions of our country the religious right sprang into action. The Institute on Religion and Democracy, a religious think tank, accused the Family Pride Coalition of trying to exploit a childrens event for political purposes. Even the White House has weighed in.
~~snip~~
The Christian right blogosphere is afire, condemning the presence of gay parents on the White House lawn as nearly terrorist threats from the homo lobby. One post suggests that White House psychologists should be deployed to help the children of gay parents and implies that they are molested in their homes. Another wishes the gays good luck, reminding readers that the Secret Service carries automatic weapons.
Such posts are, of course, those of the individual posters to http://www.FreeRepublic.com, and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of its operators. The site claims 200,000 registered members, known as Freepers, and a daily readership of tens of thousands. Free Republic, founded in 1996, has been embraced by right-wing social conservatives as the online water cooler for patriots who are biased toward God, country, family, liberty and freedom.
Or at least liberty and freedom for some. These lowlife scum should just be mowed down like terrorists, writes one good Christian.

What happened to the love that dare not speak its name?
I would never support killing homosexuals and have even supported bringing them into churches. However a homosexual Easter egg hunt is something I want no part of.
Woo Hoo!
These lowlife scum should just be mowed down like terrorists, writes one good Christian.
Interesting example of providing no context for a quote.
The article makes us sound like moonbats.
These lowlife scum should just be mowed down like terrorists, writes one good Christian.
And how did the writer of the news article determine that the author of this post was a good Christian?
Anyone have a link to the FR thread(s) in question?
The quotes sound to me like those opposed to the left's announced plan of STORMING the White House (see activism sidebar headlines).
At least there will be more places to hide the eggs this year.
I wonder what thread those quotes are from.
These people have done much more damage to these kids than not going to some easter egg hunt is going to do.
On some threads, some of us do sound like moonbats.
"What happened to the love that dare not speak its name?"
yeah what happened....I dont care how they cavort in private, but for cripesake keep it private and shutup about it already. They are grossing out the whole country.
I sometimes suspect that some of the more extreme comments on FR are posted by trolls just so they can cite them in articles such as this. (Is MD4Bush still posting?)
"The quotes sound to me like those opposed to the left's announced plan of STORMING the White House (see activism sidebar headlines)."
That's what I thought as well. Methinks this article is a bit on dishonest side.
It's now the love that won't STFU.
LOL
Sometimes I think it's a matter of "the lady doth protest too much".
Also an intructional lesson on why it is important to only post what you want to have seen in a NY Times article. Posters who constantly post inflammatory and hateful missives are much the same as Fred Phelps: agents of the left looking to discredit Christians and conservatives from within.
It won't shut up now.
And what we were told was about "consenting adults in private" is now about teens and younger in public schools expressing their sexuality and is constantly in our face.
Just what context could you construct to mitigate the meaning of the quote?
The posts here stand on their own. The poster has to defend it when it is "out there".
Maybe this might give us higher quality troll bait?
Not "Anti-Gay" at all; just pro-normal.
Now it won't shut the hell up.
This article failed to mention the outrage of the previous thread was basically that gay parents didn't just want to take their kids , they wanted to use the event as a protest. IMO it's sick to use little kids to protest.
Didn't take time to read this (gay / Easter) old article, but here's the link:

Fred Phelps is a provocateur of a different stripe. He's a Democrat (and "former" friend of Al Gore) yet the media never identifies his political affiliation (and he has even run for office).
Not a bad idea.
At least it would keep the members of the Film Actors Guild from turning a children's event into a political rally.
If you crash an event at the White House, you should be considered a security threat and locked up at minimum.
How about the possibility said quote wasn't directed at gays?
Hey! Squeak for your self!
March 1, 2008?
Children are only accessories in their selfish lives anyway.
any chance the homosexuals might hear about Christ on Easter?
It creates the same effect though. He clothes himself with words like "God", "Church", and "Christian" and then says and does things to discredit anything associated with him, including those words.
There are some on Freerepublic who claim to support RKBA, immigration laws, and capitalism, but when they actually post they do so in a way that discredits themselves and by extension those things they claim to support.
"I am starting to feel like these lowlife scum should just be mowed down like terrorists. In a sense they are....cultural terrrorists, who won't rest until they contaminate and corrupt everything sacred to us."
The gay rights group invited its members to participate but who in the White House invited them? No one (this article makes it sound like they were).
How do they know a Christian wrote it?
Boy, if that isn't the understatement of today. The kids are a means to their end, really sick.
Sweetliberty, this is you!!
The left redacted Bill Bennett quotes last year in an attempt to smear him. They accused him of holding a position he did not an of failing to recognize that the words he said were ugly (he followed the statement immediately with 'this is not my view and no way to argue the case for or against abortion').
" 200,000 registered "
Thought I saw another thread that said 100,000. Hope it's the 200,000.
In other words, whatever perversion you want to practice, with whomever, as long as they are old enough, and capable of saying yes, go ahead. BUT! I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT, and it does not bless you with any special victimhood.
Is that bigotry?
I'm deeply saddened, troubled and puzzled.
I don't believe this is a homosexual Easter Egg Hunt. It's for the children.
With that being said, if this does turn out to be used as a political forum for anyone or any group, that is where I'll draw the line.
It's for the children. Let's keep it that way.
