My book was the first to make the claim that Russia was involved in moving Iraq's WMDs to Syria. After all the nay saying and criticizing I received for it, testimony at the Summit confirmed that this was true...
The plan was drawn up after the Soviet Union decided to use its rogue state allies, specifically Libya and Iraq, to sponsor terrorism. The Soviets would help them make WMD in return, believing that would prevent Western retaliation. The head of the KGB, Yuri Andropov, told Pacepa that Russian advisors ran these countries intelligence services. Primakov was the central figure in dealing with Iraq, Pacepa said, and pointed to his presence in Iraq in the months before the war....
Shaw said that often this information was dismissed as Israeli disinformation. Although Im sure it happened to him on a much larger scale, I can confirm this happened. I cant tell you how many times Ive brought this up with experts in the field who dismissed it as Israeli garbage, or a fantasy of Russophobes and conspiracy theorists. The Cold War is over was said to me on several occasions, bringing the debate to a close. I can only hope that deep inside the community they know about all this and are acting upon it in a secretive way...

Fascinating article. Bright kid. Encouraging to know that not all our youth are vegging out in front of X-boxes.

I have a suggestion for White House aides that fret and worry about offending the Russkies: "Time to wake up and smell the coffee." Russia is not our friend. You guys are getting creamed in the public opinion polls. A nineteen year author just ate your lunch. Time for somebody to speak out about how Russia sabotaged this administration.
I hope Mumbles (AKA GW Bush) is preparing this for a retaliatory strike against the "Aint No WMDs" crowd.
I think that, when W pronounced there were "no WMD's found in Iraq", he meant exactly this: they'd been moved to Syria. Stay tuned.
Interesting. It seems to me that those who went to Iraq to look for WMD's did so supposing that they would either be easy to find and, if not, never existed. Thus, they looked for the massive quantities of the stuff and failing to find it wrote their reports accordingly. Not shockingly, to the extent their reports stated that Saddam had WMD's it was in the context that he had capacity to build an arsenal. Of course, this is frightening enough but was utterly ignored by the MSM.
I am wondering if the better approach to investigating Saddam's WMD's would not have been to assume he had them and ask the next logical question, namely, where did they go? (That is what this kid is doing) We hear Saddam talk about them in tapes. We read documents talking about them. Are we to assume Saddam was just acting or lying in these tapes and documents in order to put the U.S. in a bind? To assume that, you have to believe Saddam was counting on his country being invaded by the U.S. and the tapes being found. This is not likely and not even probable.
This also points out a flaw in the Bush administration. Once again they have backed away from an issue that they should not be backing away from. Instead of taking the approach of apologizing for no WMD's being found. The administration should be taking the approach that they were there and went somewhere and it is CRUCIAL to find out that somewhere. Their first exhibit should be Saddam's own words whether written or spoken.
How could he not know? We attacked one of the caravans of trucks. Because they had a 'Russian' diplomat with them, we had to stop the attack, and apologize.
We could only follow them afterwards, on their way to Bekka Valley.
I cant see this happening because then he will have to admit that while there are WMD we do not know
What type they are
Delivery systems
Who controls them
If the Russians control them do they control them all.
Yossef Bodansky has been writing about the Russian involvement with Iraq and as well as the former Central Republics negotiations with Bin Laden for quite awhile. The moving of Saddam's WMD's is detailed in his book THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE IRAQ WAR (2004). In his BIN LADEN: THE MAN WHO DECLARED WAR ON AMERICA (1999) he discusses how Bin Laden and Iran both had been in negotiations with leaders in the Central Republics to obtain nuclear technologies soon after the USSR fell.
The administration knows that and many of us know that. There are Russian propagandists here on FR that we engage all the time.
You guys are getting creamed in the public opinion polls.
The MSM favors Russia over us and they are the ones that conduct the phony polls. Ignore them.
I know *I* beleve a 19 year old over Secretary of State Rice. (/sarc)
19 year old kid engages experts with access to far more information than his own who tell him he's wrong.
Conclusion? Well of course the experts are wrong, and the 19 year old is right!(/sarc)
I am not interested in the 19 year old.
There is prove that WMD existed in some form, assembled or ready to be assembled.
We have the proof but not the actual WND.
Where are they, who controls them, do they represent a threat.
One of the reasons for moving against Saddam was because of the threat that he may supply a terrorist organization with a weapon nuclear biological chemical.
Is there a threat that a terrorist organization will get one of these weapons.
We know these weapons are somewhere in the Middle East we know the Middle East is crawling with terrorists.
Rather worrying
Exactly.
I keep flashing back to Tenet's 'because we're not in a position to do anything about it right now.'
They're in Syria, and were moved with the help of two exiled Soviet generals who were and are persona non grata in Russia.
Further, if there was extensive Russian Government help moving WMDs don't you think that the satilites Rumsfeld showed before the war, of where we were monitoring these weapons, would have picked up something? Do you honestly think were weren't monitoring Russians going in and out of Iraq at the time? And further that the pentagon would cover up such information?
Only a 19 year old would be so naive.
We would be able to ask the Russians about this if we did not care so much about keeping good diplomatic relations with Russia and China.
My bad, only a 19 year old or a Russaphobe
As long as Russia is ruled by old communist buddies there will be no justice in this country nor their foreign policy will have any common sense. The same with other post communist countries where commies managed to maintain an important role in the political life. It is the most degenerated, corrupted, treacherous element of the society without any hope for change for better.
"Time for somebody to speak out about how Russia sabotaged this administration."
True. And you wonder why it doesn't happen? do you wonder how all of this can happen? It's because Russian agents of influence have penetrated our society on every level---the length and breadth of it. And one of them may very likely be our next President.
I no longer believe that Sadam had any 'WMD's
nor that anything was shipped to Syria
other than
perhaps
a few buckets of chemicals
that could be used to poison Kurds.
Christ said a servant does not know what a master is doing. And a friend like Christ to the apostles shares all things, on the other hand.
Saying Russia is our friend is indeed preposterous since they are secretive.
And wishing not to see what Russia is doing or not mentioning it is making us its servant.
Maybe we should kill some prophecies that need killing out there, and sober up this world before it hurts itself.
Bodansky's 1993 concept of the Trans-Asian Axis was a much more expansive definition than the rather limited Axis of Evil. Of course it included the Axis of Evil but went way beyond it. Bodansky successfully anticipated the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Many said, back then in '93 that he was being too much of a pessimist. If anything, he held back in his assessment.
I know that it's often today's 19 year old who becomes tomorrow's kick butt guy, smashing the complacency of the stuff shirts, and asking politically incorrect questions that careerists are too pussed out to ask.
Would you consider Secretary Rice to be a careerist?
The head of the KGB, Yuri Andropov, told Pacepa that Russian advisors ran these countries intelligence services. ==
Bullsh*t. Andropov wouldn't ever use word "Russian" in such context.
We attacked one of the caravans of trucks. Because they had a 'Russian' diplomat with them, we had to stop the attack, and apologize. ==
If it was caravan with trucks? I red in papers that it was just few buses and cars.
It's because Russian agents of influence have penetrated our society on every level---the length and breadth of it. And one of them may very likely be our next President.==
Amazing:). Here in Russia I hear each day almost same tirades that AMERICAN agents penetrated every level of Russia's society. Paranoid people are same here and there:)).
The administration should be taking the approach that they were there and went somewhere and it is CRUCIAL to find out that somewhere. ==
Then administration needs to go to Syria. What if US military went to Syria and didn't find it again? How you would explain such new affront?:)
Again peaky Russians moved it from Syria to where?:)) North Korea? And so on and so on.
There are also a couple of Russian trolls posting on FR. They do not miss a trick.
"There are also a couple of Russian trolls posting on FR. They do not miss a trick."
No doubt. In fact, I was discussing this with a couple of people on another thread over the past few days. The number of trolls of all types on FR seems to be on the upswing---especially relatively subtle ones. According to some, these trolls are apparently demoralizing some really good freepers and causing them to spend less time on the site.
I feel I have experienced some degradation of the level of conversation. What do you think?
"Time for somebody to speak out about how Russia sabotaged this administration."
Very true but I think one sign that Bush is on the offense is yesterdays approval of Ukraine for WTO status - this was a surprise
" It's because Russian agents of influence have penetrated our society on every level---the length and breadth of it."
Including FR
"I feel I have experienced some degradation of the level of conversation. What do you think?"
You got that right!
No. But the CIA is filled with them.

RE: "There are multiple ideas out there. I tend to believe that the foreign policy implications of these revelations explain the Administrations silence. The politicians dont want to feel obliged to take strong action against Syria, and certainly dont want to offend Russia. On several issues, Russian cooperation is a great asset if it can be achieved. Theres a debate as to whether Russia ever really helps us. Every country we seem to have problems with has close ties to Russia. Its likely part of their strategic plan to counter American dominance. Yes, theyre pressuring Iran through negotiations, but Russia is closely tied to the Iranian regime, so one must ask in light of these revelations, is Russia simply cooperating as part of a game to buy time for her allies? Or does Russia genuinely want Iran to end its nuclear program?"
Excellent food for thought. This would indeed explain the reluctance to publicly out Russia.
There were many caravans.
The one you read about in the papers, and yes they had a Diplomat and were not stopped.
The point had already been made because we attacked a large truck convoy, and they protested to the UN.
We know where they went. And they know we know.
And because it was a diplomatic caravan, and because President Bush and the Russians discussed it, we knew and tracked every movement. Already had been.
We came to an agreement, and when interfering with diplomatic procedures, what happened... didn't happen. Until further notice.
Bad computer. Bad, bad computer.
Analogy: Sophisticated criminals like to use cut outs, so they never take the heat.
It'd be real nice if they announced the details of this episode to coincide with the capture (dead or alive) of OBL.
"Very true but I think one sign that Bush is on the offense is yesterdays approval of Ukraine for WTO status - this was a surprise."
I hadn't caught that but I agree it is quite an excellent sign.
"Further, if there was extensive Russian Government help moving WMDs don't you think that the satilites Rumsfeld showed before the war, of where we were monitoring these weapons, would have picked up something? "
They did pick up something. Extensive movement of trucks from Iraq to Syria. Satellites can't tell you what's in the trucks which is one reason our entire intelligence system sucks.
"As long as Russia is ruled by old communist buddies there will be no justice in this country"
true.
"nor their foreign policy will have any common sense."
no. I disagree with that. Their foreign-policy benefits them personally, as befits a gangster style ruler.
