Thanks for the morning chuckle. Your colleagues must tremble in fear of the awful right-wingers. I admire the courage that allows them to do their work in the face of such terror ;-)
I'm sorry to hear that you are only one of two and are fearful of being outed. Do you have tenure? I feel much better speaking out now that I am a full prof with tenure.
I think our campus, even though in Massachusetts, has more moderates and conservatives. The libs who are my friends know my stance and respect it. I don't bring politics into the classroom (unless it relates to what we are discussing). On committees, where people are less likely to know my politics, I do seem to have some moderating influence. "Do we really need multicultural and interdisciplinary desigations? Aren't those rather political?" And it worked, for the time being anyway.
There seems to be a small, but strong, support group on FR for conservative profs. Maybe we can have some impact over time. I know that FR has made me stronger at school.
Love it. Liberals think they've got their safe little U-worlds all sewn up. Tenure and two classes a week, with plenty of down time for the co-eds and political activism.
Yes, I have tenure. I've been a full professor for many years, and was even department chair. During that time, the dean joked to me about Rush's drug problems...
