I guess this is just more sane reasoning for why we should be drilling for oil on American soil and bumping up the intensity on researching alternative energy sources.

"The Europeans will not have to buy and hold dollars in order to secure their payment for oil, but would instead pay with their own currencies."

This article makes no sense whatsover. The Europeans pay for their oil with Euros now -- that is, they spend Euros to purchase dollars and then spend the dollars for oil. The oil selling nations collect dollars and then spend them where they want to. If they are buying US products they spend the dollars. If they are buying European products they use the dollars to buy Euros and spend the Euros in Europe. The value of the dollar is constantly adjusted upwards or downwards by the free market no matter what.

Dr. Petrov forgot to put on his tinfoil hat the day he wrote this. And does anyone on Freerepublic think that the U.S. is an "empire"?

ROFLOL. Guess our leaders in Washington have been diabolically clever throughout the 20th century (forever after to be known as the golden age of oil). A lot smarter than we've given them credit for anyway. Man what a fiendish plot for the American Empire to take over the entire world. And here all this time I though it could be chalked up to "shit happens." Who could've guessed that WW1, the Great Depression, the introduction of the automobile to the masses, the great rise of mechanized industry, WWII, the rise and fall of world communism, etc, etc, was really all a secret plot to expand the American Empire and rob the world of its gold? But I guess the evil Butcher of Baghdad, Saddam Hussein was even smarter than our guys, eh? LOL. Even though his mighty empire was toppled in mere days and he was trapped like a rat in a filthy hole in the ground, "President Bush sends you his regards." And now the dagger wielding 7th century Islamofascist oil pumpers are holding the world hostage, right? And even with all of our wealth and military might we can do absolutely nothing about it? Can't wait for the last act of this play to be published. The suspense is killing me.

If I had a dollar for everytime I've heard the "euro is going to replace the dollar for counting oil" line of crapola from anti-america mentally ill liberals, I'd be buying Saudi Arabia, kicking out the arabs, bulldozing the mosques, and turning it into a beachfront resort.

Currently the euro is weaking against the US dollar, Spain might be looking to pull out of even using it, the EU constitution has been voted down by Belgium and France, Finland looks to be the next to vote out of it, and Poland has been telling the EU to butt the hell out of their affairs.

Euro = dead man walking.
