The oil-rich state aims to teach up to two million volunteers, from the unemployed to office workers, shop assistants and housewives, basic military skills such as marching in step or shooting to kill.
...
For example, Mr Chavez has been buying military hardware, including Russian helicopters, 100,000 AK-47 rifles and Brazilian and Spanish equipment he says Venezuela needs to defend itself. 2 million militiamen, 100,000 AK's. I think Mr. Chavez has a bit of problem with his plan.
OTOH, the US could call up many, many more militia, under current federal and state laws, and require them to supply their own weapons, which most of them would already own. For those that did not, there are many manufactures of AR-15 type rifles that could easily produce the select fire version, aka M-16, although the semi-auto version they already make would suffice. There are also manufacturers of other 5.56mm rifles that are ammunition and magazine compatible with the AR/M-16.

He's a socialist. He will invade his neighbors. You can set your watch by it. 10 years tops. 10 years would be extraordinary longevity for El Jefe in that part of the world. The probability of him still being leader, or even still sucking wind, in 10 years, is fairly low.

He's doing the same thing the Sandinistas did in Nicarauga, keep on beating the anti-American drumbeat, pushing up the threat, wasting money on the military... while the country goes to rack and ruin around him. The difference being that the Sandinistas did not have all that oil money to waste. Venezuela can afford guns and butter.

The next North Korea may be coming from below the equator... Then it won't be Veneuzela, which is on our side of the equator.
That light blue line going almost through Quito Ecuador is the equator.

Does anyone still think that Pat Robertson is crazy for wanting Chavez assassinated? I was for it then, and I'm for it now. The man's a danger and needs to be taken out. One bullet for one man is a lot less messy!
