Oscar nominees Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal and Frances McDormand are among those expected to step out of green vehicles and onto the red carpet at the Academy Awards ceremony Sunday.
In all, 25 VIPs are participating in the fourth annual "Red Carpet, Green Cars" event sponsored by Toyota Motor Corp. and the environmental organization Global Green USA. McDormand, Phoenix, Gyllenhaal, Jennifer Aniston and George Clooney are all expected to arrive at the Oscars in Toyota or Lexus hybrids, including the Toyota Prius, Lexus RX crossover and a hybrid version of the Toyota Camry, which goes on sale in May.
Event spokeswoman Kathy Kniss said the program began with just four participants in 2002, but interest in fuel-efficient vehicles has grown exponentially since then.
"There's a huge, huge following. People are flocking to the hybrids," Kniss said.
Other automakers are also getting into the act. Ford Motor Co. said Cathy Schulman, the producer of best-picture nominee "Crash," plans to arrive in a hybrid Mercury Mariner, while best-supporting-actor nominee Gyllenhaal's entourage is scheduled to show up in a Ford Excursion powered by clean-burning biodiesel.
General Motors Corp. also will be bringing VIPs to the ceremony, but its focus will be on luxury rather than fuel efficiency. GM spokeswoman Ryndee Carney said a fleet of 50 Cadillacs mostly 2007 Escalade SUVs will be used to pick up and drop off celebrities. Carney said the automaker also will run ads during the broadcast featuring GM's two other luxury brands, Hummer and Saab
I guess the SUVs and limos will be at the 2500 acres homes.

Another example of Hollyweirdos showing off their holier-than-thou attitude.
yawn.....
will they be wearing clown suits?
These snot-nosed brats probably burn more gas making one movie than I do in 10 years.

They can arrive in the Mother Ship for all I care. |
I'll till Monday to see the pics of celebrity hooters "accidentally" popping out of dresses that cost more than my yearly income, then move on.
And how many will have flown in on personal jets?
This publicity fest is going to fall so flat on its face Sunday night that Jon Stewart's career may never recover!
I used to go to the movies....about 30 years ago.
It is to puke.
Which is also green.
Not under them? Dang.
I thought they'd be driving rainbow colored cars this year.
They should ride bikes.
So the political Bullshit starts before they even get to the door. Pathetic creeps. I will be doing my bit for the environment that night by turning off the TV.

"There's a huge, huge following. People are flocking to the hybrids," Kniss said.
And of course, an events spokeswoman speaks for Wall Street!

What would really make a "statement," and provide some perspective, as well, would be for them to come clopping up in horse-drawn carriages like some sort of royalty!
Any "green" involved would be in whatever residue gets deposited in the area. That would certainly be appropriate as well!
ANGELES Scarlett Johansson wasn't amused when fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi groped her on the red carpet at January's Golden Globe Awards, but she's willing to forgive him.
"It was definitely in poor taste," Johansson said in a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times. "I'd been prepping for two hours with hair and makeup and getting dressed. And the first interview I do, someone who I have never met before fondles me for his own satisfaction."
Mizrahi, who was doing pre-show interviews for the E! cable channel, created a flap when he groped Johansson's breast, asked Eva Longoria about her pubic hair and peeked down Teri Hatcher's dress.
"Mostly, I was thinking, 'Oh, my God. This is happening on live TV,"' Johansson recalled, adding she didn't buy the openly gay designer's explanation that he was trying to determine how her dress was put together.
"Like he doesn't know how a dress works," the 21-year-old actress said.
old Isaac's gonna have a field day this year!

...did they all buy stock in GM? I thought this was the company laying off the working man, people Hollywood claims to represent...
Saving all that gas so they can blow more outta their mouths.
Good point - they'll all fly there in G-3's after going to the airport in their Escalades......
Interesting display for folks that produced products made out of petroleum - celluloid film and DVDs - and which must be run on electricity to be viewed.
The Lexus RX is a very nice SUV.
They could arrive in an ox cart for all I care. Arrogant lot, they.
Where they will return in their Business Jets burning gads of jet fuel.
But you and I should drive a friggin' Hybrid.
KMA
I can't WAIT to watch the footage of some Over-dressed,wine-sipping Liberal stumbling out of the back seat of a frikken PRIUS!!!
..He's gay you know....
I didn't watch that night, and I won't watch Sunday night...
stars arrive in RENTED green cars.
They will be parking their real limo around the corner. I bet we can check all the plates on the "green cars" and find them to be rentals.
That would be a fun hollyweird hypocracy story.
Actually, they won't be rentals - the car companies are donating the rides. Isn't that special.
Barf.
MARKETING PLOY!!!!
You sound cynical. You don't think the hollywierds are really into the environment, you don't think they have compost piles in the back of their homes, and they recycle everything, use cloth diapers, etc. etc.
Me neither.
ROTFLMBO!

By the way, Hollywood celebrities really DO own hybrids as daily drivers. My brother (who works in the entertainment industry) has seen Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio driving their own Prius cars, and I do believe that Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon both own the current Prius cars.
...wearing diamonds that financed the war in Angola... Where is their outrage?!?!
(I won't be watching, either.)
Or in the nearest parking garage .. LOL!
You mean G-4's. Cher does NOT travel in anything less than a G-4. (King of Cons by Aaron Tonken)
I won't be convinced of their true sincerity to the environmental cause unless they arrive clad in cycling togs, sweaty, and astride a bicycle after pedaling 250 miles.

That is a very good point and one that is never brought up. I used to work as a sound recordist and I can tell you there is nothing more wasteful and routinely harmful to the environment than making movies.
Consider some of the factors:
1. Transportation. An average movie takes 6 months to shoot. Add up all of the fuel used shuttling the talent back and forth every day along with the catering trucks, equipment trucks, crew cars and vans and you burn enough in one DAY to supply about 100 people commuting back and forth in the average city. Multiply that time 180 and they burn as much as 18,000 people, then multiply that time how many movies are made during the year and the amount is STAGGERING.
2. Electricity. Add up the electricity used to power the star's and director's trailers and keep their AC's running, and the juice used to power the lights and cameras along with cooling the sets (most sound stages are kept at 64 year round to compensate for the heat from the lighting and you could probably power a small city for 3 years with what is used on just one movie.
3. Environmental Impact. When making a movie sets are built with WOOD from TREES, very little is recycled..while some sets are redone for other movies in most cases they are built from new materials..there is massive waste at this level. Plus when they shoot on locations they have to hold up traffic causing jams and tie ups that waste fuel. If they are shooting outside they have to make roads and cut down trees, trample saplings, pollute streams, blow things up and wreak havoc on the local flora and fauna.
The list goes on and on, you would be hard pressed to find a more wasteful enterprise. 'Environmentalist movie star' is an absolute oxymoron.
Right from their private Jets, to their 10,000 sq. ft. homes and right into the green cars. I hate these people.
