Of the Academy Award Best Picture nominations, Crash is the only one we've seen (wouldn't go to the rest if you paid me).
I have now an interesting set of mythic films about L.A. that I am going to send to a group to the gal soldiers at Kirkuk or the psyops group at Kosovo, not sure which yet. In all some overpower is directing fate.
L.A. Story (Steve Martin)--fantasy love myth, Dieu ex freeway sign
Crand Canyon (Kevin Kline, Alfre Woodard, Steve Martin)--benign myth about good triumphing over the racial divide in L.A.
Spanglish (Adam Sandler, Tia Leone)--a couple of adults try to step beyond myth and act responsibly. An interesting film where Adam Sandler plays his first grown-up.
Crash (Matt Dillon, and everybody else in Hollywood)--sharp racial tension and a mythic binding of fate. I thought it was a good movie, and hardly noticed the record number of crude utterances.

It is hard to watch any Fox programs lately for a conservative. I avoid Fox when they release a Fox News Poll.
You will hear things like this: When the Dems. take over how will the stocks do? What will the president do with a democrat congress? Will he be impeached? Will the republican party split up?

This is the last joke my brother told me before he went into surgery last Friday.
I sent it to most of our adopted units last week.
JOKE OF THE DAY:
A couple guys down on their luck stopped by a farm house and asked if they could sleep there for the night.
Lady of the house said, "I'm a widow, so you'll have to sleep in the barn."
9 months later many miles away one of the fellows got a letter from a lawyer. He looked puzzled after reading the letter, then went and looked up his friend.
"You remember when we slept in the widow's barn 9 months back?"
"Yeah."
"Did you go up to the house and see the widow during the night?"
"Uh, yeah."
"And I gather you two got along fine....?"
His friend smiled and said, "Yep, we did."
"And did you use my name instead of yours while you were up there at the house?"
Fellow shrugged and said, "Matter of fact, I did."
"Well, I just got this letter from her lawyer, and bless me if that nice lady didn't die and leave everything to me."
