Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is the most popular politician in the United States, according to a national poll this week testing support for potential candidates in the 2008 presidential race.
The survey of some 1,900 voters by the Quinnipiac Polling Institute asked respondents to rate several nationally known politicians on a scale from 0 to 100, with higher numbers reflecting higher regard.
Giuliani topped the list, with an average score of 63.5 percent, followed by Democratic Senator Barack Obama, seen as one of his party's rising stars. Obama scored 59.9.
In third place was maverick veteran Republican US Senator John McCain at 59.7, followed by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice with a score of 57.1.
Former US President Bill Clinton rounded out the top five with a score of 56.1 in the poll by the Hamden Connecticut-based political institute.
His wife, US Senator Hillary Clinton, seen as the Democrats' top bet to run for the White House in 2008, came in eighth place, with a score of 50.4.

The ragheads worst nightmare.
Rudy vs. Hillary in 2008
Guiliani would get my vote.
Did they poll only libs from New York?
I have no arguments with putting Giuliani at Homeland Security, especially since it looks like Chertoff is on his way out.
I wouldn't vote for him for POTUS, though.
Probably because he's sooooooo good looking.
I'll bet I could go out today and ask 20 people who Barack Obama was, and I've got $5 says 18 of them have never heard of him.
Why? Are they unborn, unarmed or heterosexual?
Must've just polled liberals. LOL

RUDY! RUDY! RUDY! :) i know the downside, but i would still vote for him
Must have polled not only liberals, but Chicago liberals.
Barack Obama came in second?
That's impossible. He's not a household name.
Yeah. You liberal Republicans stick together.
Not exactly the dream candidate for American gunowners, either.
My thoughts exactly.
Thank you!
I was just about to search for this information.
Over ANY democrat, absolutely.
Yep...
And Rudy will mop the floor with her in all 3 debates also run a much better campaign and will win by 40 states including NY.
Why would you call that a Liberal remark, RM? Just wondering...is it that Rudy is pro-choice?
i couldn't vote for McCain, he's a moron. If Haley Barbour runs i'd vote for him. Who do you see on the horizon that can beat the beast?
Interesting pic.

If Rudy can do for the US what he did for NYC, he would be the most popular president as well.
Rudy is pro-choice, pro-gay and anti-gun.
Why would a conservative vote at all in a race between a liberal and a liberal?
I'll try my best to make you vote for McCain "IF" he's our nominee! We cannot afford a democrat in the WH.
My governor, Haley Barbour, isn't running.
A star power, good conservative needs to emerge on our side and I think events in the coming days might open avenues for some to shine and make themselves known nationwide.
"The ragheads worst nightmare.
Why? Are they unborn, unarmed or heterosexual?"
Good one. If I have a choice of McCain or Rudy, I would have to decline. I have not seen anyone at this point that qualifies as a conservative.
Because turning the WH over to a Marxist democrat is unthinkable.
Excellent question. However, I don't much care for McCain, either. And I don't know enough about Allen.
Today's the primaries and there's hardly been anything on it at all. I'd have thought it safe to vote straight party, but I don't think so anymore. Not in Texas!
RudiG is pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-illegal immigration, pro-homo agenda, pro-big government, pro-environmental wackoism, pro-extra-constitutional rights and as far as I can tell, anti-family. I see anything conservative about Rudi. If I still lived in NYC, I'd vote for him for Mayor. Senator, POTUS, Governor? NO WAY. I'm not convinced he would prosecute the WOT the way PresBush is, the way it should be, and the way it'll need to be prosecuted come 2009. Rudi is tough on crime. His one big plus as a liberal.
You can try all you want LOL it's not happenin!
If its McStain v. Hildebeast im gonna stay home and get drunk for the first time in 12 years.
Giuliani is the Colin Powell of this election cycle. Many know him from the media's lionization of him, but few know the gory details of this RINO.
At this point, I'll take anyone but McCain or Rudy. At least McCain has a conservative voting record, unlike Giussolini.
Okay, I can see where that alone isn't enough to sustain his nomination or his running. But, really, who do you like? Will the Libbies really run on Hillary? Are there enough Lesbians to get her elected?
Because turning the WH over to a Marxist democrat is unthinkable.
LOL! No, you won't. You wouldn't aid in Hitlery's election. "IF" McCain is our nominee, his VP choice will be extremely important, given that John will be 72 in 2008.
He won't be our nominee. I am not worried.
Here is the biggest problem with both Giuliani and McCain: Both have enormously favorable ratings among Democrats. Which means that both would likely end up serving two terms. Meaning that either would have eight years to stock SCOTUS with David Souter types who think the way they do. I some ways HRC actually MIGHT be favorable to either. Souter, Scalia, Kennedy, and Ginsberg will all likely be departing by that time. Which means that the next two term president will appoint rougly 40% of the Justices who could serve for the next 30 years.
I'm serious! I can't vote for him, I don't trust him AT ALL with the button. LOL
McCain is pro-defense, pro-life and supports limited govt through spending reforms and eliminating waste, fraud and abuse. I'm not too concerned with his "maverick" attitude. At times McCain hits the right notes. Other times, I can't stand the man. What will stop me from voting for him is his position on immigration reform. Teaming up with fat Ted Kennedy isn't my idea of conservatism at work. CFR is another reason to oppose McCain.
Have you taken leave of your senses? How would Hillary, (student of Saul Alinsky) EVER be more favorable than either McCain or Guiliani?
heh - and just yesterday a poll said that Hillary would pummel Rudy in an election ... that's queer - imagine that!
In some ways HRC actually MIGHT be favorable to either.
I will convince you otherwise, should the need arise.
LOL I don't support anyone right now. George Allen is worth a look. And I do like my Governor, Bill Owens. Otherwise, its slim pickens for sure. Thank god its early in the process. Maybe in the next 15-18 months someone will step forward and grab the GOP leadership mantle. If Dick Cheney was only ten years younger.
I don't agree with Rudy on every thing...but he'd get my vote if he's on
the ticket (and the running mate isn't a real stinker)
I hope it doesn't come to that! Come on Haley Barbour we need ya! hehe
