Full disclosure: I am a UNC grad, and proud of it. UNC, sadly, has become arguably the epicenter of liberalism in the South. Note, however, that this liberalism is centered on the administration (Erskine Bowles, President of the consolidated university including its flagship campus at Chapel Hill) and faculty (including the new distinguished professor, John Edwards).
The fact that UNC has become a home for defeated Dem pols (whether a retirement home or a platform from which to launch new political campaigns remains to be seen) should not obscure the fact that there are, among the student body, a good number of courageous conservatives. Today, a demonstration in the Pit (the campus gathering place where the incident took place) criticized the university for shying away from calling the incident terrorism, which it clearly was.
But the staff and faculty of UNC, consumed with political correctness, is loathe to offend anyone. Of course, by their reluctance to criticize Muslim fanaticism, they've managed to offend many more.
How long, I wonder, before the administration realizes that "Chapel" might be offensive to Muslims, and decides to change the university's name to UNC-Mosque Hill?

As a rule of thumb, I don't like to find myself in agreement with a loony muslim (is there any other kind?) but in this case I see eye to eye with him.
I'd of liked to have seen the students rip him from the vehicle, tear his arms off and beat him to death with them while shoving pork down his pie hole.
But it is college kids afterall.

Notice the "killing his people" part.
The followers of the cult of Islam do not consider themselves a part of "our country" but instead a part of the world body of Islam.
There are three types of Muslims 1) Terrorists 2) Those who actively support the terrorists and 3) Those who support the terrorists by their silence.
While there are some Muslims who speak out against this evil they are quickly sidelined by the first three.

This was clearly an act of terrorism and a hate crime.

And if they can imagine things like this happening almost every day, they'll have some idea about how the Muslims behaved in Kosovo over the past quarter century.

UNC requires its students to read a book about Islam. Perhaps they should require their students to read a book about Christianity, or American values. This guy doesn't get it.

A native of Iran, Taheri-azar has lived most of his life in the United States, living in Charlotte with his mother and sister. His mother had been a real-estate agent until the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, when she quit to do humanitarian work. Friends said she has been teaching English in Afghanistan. Um, am I the only one who thinks this mother may need to be investigated a little, too? She's an Iranian immigrant who has lived in the U.S. for many years (most of her 20-something year old son's life) and working as a real estate agent and then suddenly, after 9/11, decides to head off to Afghanistan of all places, to "teach English"?

UNC requires its students to read a book about Islam. This has become something of an urban legend. Each year, entering freshmen are "assigned" a book to read over the summer before their freshman year. I put the word "assigned" in quotes, because there is no penalty for failing to read the book; the book, in any given year, is the subject of ungraded seminars during freshman orientation. Two or three years ago, the "assigned" book did indeed deal with Islam; it is my understanding that it was a book about the Koran, and that it glossed over references to what fate should befall non-Islamists.
Don't get me wrong. I objected to the choice of reading material. It was a particularly tone-deaf choice in light of the fact that 9/11 was still fresh in everyone's mind -- which, of course, was why it was selected. The purpose of the "assigned" reading is to get the entering students out of their comfort zone, and to expose them to perspectives new to them. I have no problem with that concept -- if, once in a while, they'd pick a book on the conservative side. An abridged version of The Federalist Papers, for example. I'm not holding my breath.

A man who admits that he intentionally plowed into nine people on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus last week told authorities he was disappointed that more people were not around when he carried out the alleged attack. His problem was the use of an SUV on liberal UNC's campus. Well before the mohammedan arrived at the pit, students were already running in terror at the sight of his SUV just passing by on the street. A similar dynamic took place once he finally left the parking lot and entered the pit, a student saw the SUV and like a prarie dog on watch, sounded the alarm sending students fleeing in panic before the SUV could begin accelerating.
Had the mohammedan, used a Prius, he might have achieved total surprise.

Even my favorite liberal and his family applauded the Republican/conservative students who protested at UNC demanding this heinous act be correctly termed an act of terrorism.
They still think merely "protesting something" merits respect, but in this case, they also agreed with the evil Republican protesters position.
Central North Carolina is not a good place to be.
The native-born population is few and far between, and recent local events (not just this one) have shown me that it is insane to assume even a minimum degree of community cohesion in any emergency, of any scale.
Hindsight being 20/20, we were better off in Florida.

Certainly the book you linked would qualify as a "fair and balanced" selection for freshman reading. As would
this 107-year-old book.
