WASHINGTON -- The institutional vanity and intellectual slovenliness of America's campus-based intelligentsia have made academia more peripheral to civic life than at any time since the 19th century. On Monday, its place at the periphery was underscored as the Supreme Court unanimously gave short shrift to some law professors who insisted that their First Amendment rights to free speech and association were violated by the law requiring that military recruiters be allowed to speak to the professors' students if the professors' schools receive federal money.

"Surely students have not lost that ability by the time they get to law school." I wouldn't bet on that.

I don't think much of George Will, but he nailed this one. The leftists on campus are a bunch of oddballs and they are not to be taken seriously. They are only good for a laugh. They have made their bed, let them lie in it.

-They said they are compelled to communicate the false message that they support the ``don't ask, don't tell" policy, and their hosting also subsidizes the military's expression of its view that openly gay persons are not suited for service.-
Heh-heh. Pucker up if you want to feed at the trough, boys!

Suppose, Roberts wrote, an individual announced that he intended to express disapproval of the Internal Revenue Service by refusing to pay taxes....Hmm. With all due respect to Justice Roberts, I may have to rethink my position on this ....

It's a lack of vision on Robert's part - he can't seem to see the penumbras. ;-)

Thirty-six law schools and faculties challenged the constitutionality of the law on the ground that forced hosting of military recruiters constitutes a crisis of conscience over compelled speech. What compels them not to submit their resignations???
To: Sir Francis Dashwood
What is especially disturbing is that thirty-six law schools are so enamored with their entitlement to twist the Constitution at will as to publicly flout it at risk of appearing ignorant of the lawful enumerated powers of the Federal government.

Congress should bring back the draft - - and put these campus faculty at the top of the list since they think the answer to terrorism is education for the Islamists...
It might clear out your neighborhood a bit. : ^)
It would be especially great for Angela Davis to test her social theories and for those who study it!
To: Sir Francis Dashwood
I have a better idea. New colleges should form offering degrees to students who could pick and choose from among online courses by any professor, anywhere. Exams could be held in store-front rental spaces in strip malls. Grade papers with huge penalties for fraud. It would take 90% out of the cost of a university degree.
End the univeristy monopoly.

OU is close. What I was envisioning required more broadband interaction, but they're on their way.
We could end up in a world with only a dozen or so universities. That's the scary part.
