Bodies of 23 Found in Baghdad

Wednesday, March 08, 2006

BAGHDAD, — At least 23 bodies — many of them hanged — were found dumped in parts of Baghdad, while a string of explosions killed at least four people in the Iraqi capital, police said Wednesday.

An American military patrol investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle found 18 bodies late Tuesday in an abandoned minibus in west Baghdad, Iraqi police and U.S. forces said. The victims — all men — had been handcuffed, blindfolded and either hanged or shot to death, police Lt. Maitham Abdul-Razzaq said.

At least two appeared to be foreign Arabs, he added.

The bus containing the bodies was found on the road between Amariyah and Khadra, two mostly Sunni Muslim neighborhoods in one of Baghdad's most dangerous sections, Abdul-Razzaq said.

The bodies were taken to Yarmouk Hospital, where Dr. Mohanad Jawad confirmed two of the victims had been shot to death and the rest hanged. Their deaths appeared recent, he said.

In Wednesday's violence, a bomb hidden under a parked car near the University of Technology exploded as police from the interior minister's protection force were driving through central Baghdad, killing at least two people and injuring five, police Maj. Abbas Mohammed Salman said. The minister was not in the convoy, he said.

Another bomb missed an American convoy on the northern outskirts of Baghdad and killed two Iraqi boys who were selling gasoline by the side of the road, police Capt. Qassim Hussein said. He estimated their ages at between 10 and 11.

Elsewhere, police found the bodies of four men in an open field in Baladiyat, a mixed Sunni-Shiite neighborhood in east Baghdad. The victims had been handcuffed and hanged, police Capt. Mahir Hamad Moussa said, noting the rope marks on their necks.

Something that's been whispered. Militias are being formed.

Is this what is happening with the house cleaning?

From my safe position here in the US, I see this as a good thing. However, it could get overdone if after the housecleaning these guys continue to operate to shake down the locals for 'protection'.

I wish I could remember, I read on an Iraqi blog a couple of years ago that there is a difference between hanging and shooting. One is reserved for officers, the other for commoners.

I wouldn't necessarily consider your best case scenario outside the bounds of reason in this case and given the circumstances.

I have to agree. This was a clean, professional hit in Sunni domain. The Sunnis are much more adept at such an operation than the Shiites.

Hmmm. Are Iraqis beginning to take care of the 'foreign terrorist' problem on their own?

I agree. I am just not holding my breath over them taking charge and cleaning their country out of these vermin.

Yeah, neither am I. There's no precedent for it and "bad, evil, violent" men typically triumph over the more peaceful, complacent types for obvious reasons until full fledged regional or world wide war breaks out with civilization hanging in the balance.

What really makes me worry is that The leader of Iran and Bin Laudin have both said that their goal is creating the 3rd world war to eliminate all of the non-muslums from the face of the world. While saying this our MSM and liberals continually tell us that we are the blame.

And why not, it's straight from the Koran:

[2.193] And fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah

[8.39] And fight with them until there is no more persecution and religion should be only for Allah; but if they desist, then surely Allah sees what they do.

What do people that've read the Koran and Mohammed's other teaching's expect? It's no secret, only a denied truth and reality.

[4.144] O you who believe! do not take the unbelievers for friends rather than the believers; do you desire that you should give to Allah a manifest proof against yourselves?

[5.51] O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

[9.5] So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

But our choice, politically, and in the media, is to stick our heads in the sand, not read the Koran or the Hadith and Mohammed's other writings, turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to reality, and then try to pretend that it's something it isn't just so that we can live in bliss, .... ignorantly.

Call me crazy, but if ignorant is me ignoring a doctrine which claims if I blow myself and a bunch of innocents away I'll have 72 friggin virgins waiting for me, well...

I guess I'll just have to settle for living a good life, treating people good and fair, loving my family, working to achieve my dreams and goals and, uh, not having 72 virgins waiting for me...

Yeah... call me crazy.

I have heard that the 72 virgins are not in the Koran but was made up my a cleric. The only thing that the Koran says is that you will be given a special place by Allah.

But remember, there was a Gallop poll done in Sept. 2003, and 2/3 of Baghdad residents said it was worth the hardships they'd endured to get rid of Saddam. So how much loyal support did he really have?

Not much. Ever. He is despised in Baghdad.

It's true that most of his support base was either in Baghdad or Tikrit. But still, the majority in both places detested the oppression and murder that were the symbols of his "leadership."

I wish I knew the real truth of who is doing what to whom in Iraq.

Just ask us. We'll tell you whatever we can.

And yes, the MSM is lying through its teeth.

Yes.

Iraqis are starting to assume a lot of their own national security duties.

The MSM back home isn't telling you that, are they?

The MSM is reprehensible.

We're not getting any information on that yet, aside from what people back home are getting from the news. Of course, we'll pump the locals when they come on base tomorrow. I'm always interested in their opinions.

The early scuttlebutt is that it might be vigilante killings. It's been happening some lately, although not on such a large scale as this. But citizens are killing people who are known to be terrorists on occasion these days.

And I'm all for that.
