Pfc. Joshua Sparling Update (some "sad" news, but he is still very upbeat)

Pfc. Joshua Sparling

Many of you will remember the story of Pfc. Joshua Sparling, the wounded soldier who received a disgusting death-wish greeting card in December while hospitalized at Walter Reed Army Hospital. Sean Hannity has kept close contact with Sparling and interviewed him yesterday about his condition. Sad news:

Sparling's leg will have to be amputated below the knee--but he wants to "get back to [Fort Bragg] and "jump right back in his unit (the 82nd Airborne)." We are so fortunate to have men like Pfc. Sparling.

I've uploaded the audio. Listen here (thanks to reader Tony J.).

Landry's Life has photos of her recent visit with Pfc. Sparling at Walter Reed.

Keep him in your prayers.

Can anyone post the picture of the scumbag who sent the letter again? What a toolbox - and ugly too.

In the interview Joshua has some choice words for the terrorist in North Carolina who ran over the students and for the teacher in Colorado, Jay Bennish, who compared the American flag to the nazi flag. Joshua also mentions that for the first time he gets to go home to Michigan, for on month. He sounded very happy about that.

Prayers up for him and all the troops!

He doesn't need the leg anyway. Prosthetics are advanced and getting better. Without the leg, he is still ten times the man of most men. He can do anything he wants with the rest of his life. The best of his life is still to come for this brave young man. I see nothing but good coming from this man's life.

Godspeed to you son. Your money is no good in my town.

God bless Joshua. May all go well with his surgery, and may he return to a normal lifestyle soon.

What is amazing is that he must keep this halo device attached to his left leg for about another nine months so that bone growth below his knee can keep progressing before they perform the amputation. Joshua said that he is in a lot of pain each day.

One can only hope their sons and daughters grow up to be as courageous and patriotic as Joshua Sparling.

A dear family friend, Stephanie Browning, is in a similar situation. She was wounded last October and is still healing a severe leg wound. Stephanie is very proud of her service, but even more proud of the people she serves with and what they have accomplished.

The following is an excerpt from a Bakersfield news station KGET TV interview of Stephanie after Assemblyman Kevin McCarthy announced Stephanie as his pick for "Woman of the Year" last week.

Last October, Browning earned the Purple Heart after being wounded in Iraq, when her convoy was bombed. Shrapnel broke her right leg, an injury which nearly forced doctors to amputate. Her chin still bears a scar of the blast.
But, Browning says she is proud to have served her country and that the honor should recognize her military family, still battling violence in Iraq.

“I'm not accepting the award for myself, but I'm accepting it for the soldiers still there,” she said.

Meantime, Assemblyman McCarthy says she is a hero to all of us. “She's a great example I think for Kern County and for Bakersfield,” he said.

I am so proud of Stephanie not just for her courage in Iraq but for her courage in speaking out about the need to support the troops and recognize the valuable sacrifice they make for all of us.

Stephanie went to a music event in Santa Barbara with me a couple of weeks ago. The concert was attended almost exclusively by anti-war Bush Haters. She made such a wonderful impression with her outstanding character and spirit. She definitely changed some hearts that night.

She just takes everything way too seriously and with a bit of arrogance. I like a bit of humor once in awhile...and I don't see that in her. Just not my taste.

What's your gripe about her? Too pretty? Want her to look more like Ivins or Hillary, or ?

Michelle does a great job, and speaks her mind.

How in the world can that bother you?

oops......and let me add. When you read a thread like this, about a young soldier going through so much. It's pitiful that all you focus about is the one reporting the story. Why would that be?

Because you hate the message.....

How lame is that?

God Bless this young man.

I think I know what you mean; on a mission about Important Issues. But one doesn't get to a position such as hers- pundit, speaker, writer, etc., unless you feel you have something to say, and have the confidence to say it.
