WASHINGTON, March 9 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today congratulating Congressman John Murtha for receiving the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for his brave stance on the Iraq war. The award is presented annually to public servants who have withstood strong opposition to follow what they believe is the right course of action.

"Congressman Jack Murtha is indeed a profile in courage. The conviction and bravery to speak out for what is right, even when politically dangerous or at personal cost, has characterized his entire life, and led him to deal a mighty blow of truth to the President's failed Iraq policy. Congressman Murtha stands with his constituents, with our troops, and with our country - and in doing so, he spoke truth to power about the war in Iraq. I am so proud that he has been recognized with this outstanding award."

These sick puppies need to read this.............

"Neither the United States of America nor the world community of
nations can tolerate deliberate deception and offensive threats on the
part of any nation, large or small. We no longer live in a world where
only the actual firing of weapons represents a sufficient challenge to
a nation's security to constitute maximum peril.

My fellow citizens, let no one doubt that this is a difficult and
dangerous effort on which we have set out. No one can foresee
precisely what course it will take or what costs or casualties will be
incurred. Many months of sacrifice and self-discipline lie ahead --
months in which both our patience and our will will be tested, months
in which many threats and denunciations will keep us aware of our
dangers. But the greatest danger of all would be to do nothing.

The path we have chosen for the present is full of hazards, as all
paths are; but it is the one most consistent with our character and
courage as a nation and our commitments around the world. The cost of
freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one
path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender or
submission.

Our goal is not the victory of might, but the vindication of right;
not peace at the expense of freedom, but both peace and freedom, here
in this hemisphere, and, we hope, around the world. God willing, that
goal will be achieved."

How is it courageous to take a stand *in agreement with* the majority of your own party?! If the people who decide on the award had an ounce of intelligence and were looking for a Democrat to give it to, then they should have picked Joe Lieberman!

I think the "courage" with him is that he was a Marine as if *everyone* who ever wore the uniform is worthy of respect. Yes,the overwhelming majority of Marines *are* worthy of respect, but Lee Harvey Oswald was a Marine.

And so was Murtha.

Well, you could look at this way......He actually did object to the war in Iraq and in doing that, this is probably the only award he actually got that was legitimate. All of the others awards were trumped up like JFK's (John Kerry).

The real JFK (John Fitzgerald Kennedy) would have BARFED over the DUMB DONK'S giving his Award to the likes of "Marine that runs Murtha"!

Exactly like an Oscar after that "Pimp" song won one. It's a worthless award, now.

Here is what I emailed to the JFK library..............

I am sickened that an award has been given to Mr. Murtha in President Kennedys name that clearly is against EVERYTHING that JFK stood for in regard to defending this nation and nurturing democracy. How utterly sad.
I offer no deep insight into what defines one human being to another for having courage or not in deserving of an award in the former Presidents name. But an elected official that simply makes **speeches and statements** while others sacrifice and take the risks is NOTHING compared to the TRUE HEROES fighting the war on terror afar.

Why not an award to the brave Iraqis who WENT TO VOTE and defied the terrorists?

That is ONE THOUSAND TIMES the courage of any speech made by a congress person.

Kennedy was my hero growing up. And seeing this award given to this person at this critical time in our history in his name sickens me and many others. There is clearly a political agenda driving this.

How sad. It serves not the former Presidents memory.

Hey....do the DUMB DONKS even know the meaning of TREASON anymore?

There are sooooo many that have committed treason according to the definition
that is still on the Books as far as I know and NOBODY does anything about it!
Kerry, Gore, Murtha,Carter, Hanoi Jane, Sheehanigan, code pink, etc. are just to name a few.

Everyone of these have given aid and comfort to the enemy when we are at war and gotten by with it! It's time that the powers-that-be call TREASON just what it was meant to be!!

So much apathy that the true definition has gotten lost in the shuffle
somewhere.

Me thinks the enemy is within, way more than we realize!!!

As a symbol of the award, they will sew a yellow ribbon down the back of his coat. (It symbolizes the color if the skin covering his spine.)

He was a staff officer. He works in an office.

Staff officers do not go out on combat operations.

His "wounds" had to be something like running a staple under his finger nail.

Wow! This is HUGH and series.

A democrat congratulating another democrat for getting an award named after a democrat's book, presented BY a group of democrats from the library named after the democrat book writer, which is run by that democrat's daughter.

(Sheesh, why didn't they just have circle jerk and call it a day)
