The laws encourage women to abandon babies who would have otherwise kept them...

If it is left in a Safe Haven, it is not abandoned.

There is no reason that the babies left in the Safe Haven cannot be given to adoptive families. Far better fate than to be kept in the arms of the care of the irresponsible, immature, unmarried girl.

""The safe haven laws are wrong, you should at least get your medical history," she said."

How the heck does she expect a girl who didn't want to tell anyone that she was pregnant and was afraid of going somewhere she might be identified to fill out a form with her family's medical history? The important thing is to save the lives of the babies, and any medical history that can be gleaned from willing mothers is gravy.

"Many people who are adopted feel this great void. You don't have any history or heritage," said Greiner of Bastard Nation. "You feel as if you were born under a rock or dropped off by a space alien. You have a right to know where you came from."

And who or what guarantees that "right to know"???

But, but . . . . In the Sixities, we were assured that the Pill and better sex education would prevent unwanted pregnancies. The Sexual Revolution was supposed to make sex free and unfettered, with no messy consequences. What happened?

ast year, Pertman's group released a report critical of safe haven laws, saying they encourage irresponsible behavior and make it impossible for the infants to learn their family or medical history later in life.

Oh, big FReepin' deal. One does not need to know one's family or medical history to have a good life. The children are saved. That is what matters.

Frankly, I think it was better back in the old days when a seal on adoption records actually meant something.

The problem is that in many states the information isn't getting out because the states appropriate too little money for outreach programs and the school teachers don't mention it in their classrooms. There in the school, with a teacher in a classroom no money has to be spent. All she has to do is tell her students about it.

But do they? No, they do not, they would much rather have the student abort. Many times you see in the news reports of a child abandoned, some are found alive and some dead, and in most cases it's from an underage mother who could have learned about the law, free of charge, from her teacher in school.

Sorry. Results count and they definately have some good results here. If the organizations like, THEY can put the child up for adoption.
