Why waste your time quoting Ellen Ratner? She is two bit liberal pundit who writes for New York Newsday. SO WHAT!

"McCain except that he would be a sitting duck if he got the nomination."

How can he be sitting if he is already dead.

I have not seen more the one out of every 100 Freepers that would vote for his sorry ass.

Most likely, the Dems have something provided by their friends in the people's republic of China that shows McCain dishing out the goods to his captors in North Vietnam.

They have held onto it because it works better as a lever to undermine the Republican party than simply beating him out of his Senate seat.

It's Pinkerton who writes for Newsday. Granted, Ratner is not a major media voice, but Fox News gives her a platform every Saturday to reach lots of people. Besides, it's fun!

It's disgraceful to mention Ronald Reagan and John McCain in the same sentence. ;^)

"I love John McCain. I am not a Republican, but I lo-v-v-v-v-e John McCain. So I am hoping he is the one." ......... "I am not saying I would vote for him."

Then, Ellen, just take him out for a nice dinner and a movie....... and pick up the check.

I had never thought of the reason you suggest for their love of him. I always figgered that since he has precious little support from the pubby base, ie., people like you and me, they love to rub him in our face. Chris Matthews sure seems to love him too, and I always thought it was genuine.

Ratner knows he will split the Republican in a real nasty blowup during the primaries. Mean John is going to come out in all his glory when the competition begins. He is going to do stupid things like claim Christians should not interfere in his government...

just how influential will Ellen's adoration will be for Republicans choosing their 2008 presidential candidate?

Thank you Ellen, I never thought I could be saying this to you, but, your support/adoration makes point better than anyone why this is not the man for the Republican Party. We are talking about the man who was asked to be the advise president for Democratic party!!!! by none other than the girly-man himself: John Carry. Doen't this tell you something?

Seriously, it will be interesting who is right on how strong McCain is. Sure we know the Left is pushing, and all the homos/extreme-libs -quietly - are behind him too, because they see him as the best possible choice from the Reps.

I guarantee you we would never get another Roberts or Alito with renegade McCain

How are we to make the GOP understand that if they nominate McCain millions of conservatives will stay home or vote Libertarian?

If the choice is between Hillary and McCain the MSM and the Dems win either way. It would be another choice as between FDR and Wendel Wilkie (GOP nominee who was a registered Democrat).

Of course, for a committed liberal like Ratner, even love has its limits: "I am not saying I would vote for him."

Of course, for a committed liberal Conservative like Ratner myself, even love has its limits: "I am not saying I would not vote for him."

I've yet to actually meet a McCain supporter.

Our county GOP head was actually thinking about getting MCCain to be a guest speaker at our annual dinner. I told him if they did that we would be picketing outside rather than attending.

Of course, they would love it to be McCain because they know how much he is disliked by real Americans who don't like backstabbers.

Of course we wouldn't, but that isn't the point. The Rats and the media think we are stupid and can be stampeded into supporting McCain. Recent events with the port deal seem to indicate they have reason to believe this.

I imagine that there will be an effort over the next year to pick off viable candidates until only McCain is left. I don't know that this will work, but they sure are going to try.
