Hoisting American flags into the air, tens of thousands of immigrants from the Chicago area marched downtown in a display of support for immigrant rights as a bill to stiffen border enforcement awaits action in the U.S. Senate.
Many took up enthusiastic chants like "Si, se puede (Yes, it can be done)" and "La raza unida nunca sera vencida (A people united will never be defeated)."
The mostly Latino marchers Friday descended upon the plaza across from the federal courthouse, where they listened to speeches backing pro-immigrant legislation.
"Raise those American flags!" shouted U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (news, bio, voting record), a Democrat. "This is our country, and this is where we will stay."

If 100,000 can make their presence known in the USA why can't they make themselves known in Mexico. They have to fight their own fight not steal from us.
They could at least have the courtesy to "chant" in ENGLISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because most of the politicians in Mexico are corrupt and there's no one to rally them to win their votes.
Hey, Gutierrez! If you're an immigrant, there's no problem. If you're ILLEGAL, there's a problem.
How simple must we be with these morons?!
(needs a barf alert)

I saw a good number of these people on their way to and from the rally. I observed that the American flags (that were clearly distributed--a sign of political organization) were a nice touch. Gotta wonder about the chanting in Spanish thing, however. LOL
What a nice convenient large-sounding number. How Clintonesque. [100,000 new cops; 10,000 women died per year pre-Roe]
ping...
Corrupt Mexico is not my problem. My problem is fighting the corrupt politicians in USA where I am legal and don't matter to them. The illegals need to so something for themselves and their country. Do they give up citizenship if and when they apply for citizenship here? NOT and why not if they want to be here so bad. Wonder how many of the amnesty folks have become real citizens of the USA? Anyone know?
I agree with you. We have no problem with LEGAL immigrants. It's the ILLEGAL immigrants that are filling up our schools with expensive programs, closing our hospitals, and driving up the costs of our insurance!
Of course it's OK to a dim. After all, it was a march for socialism...
What rights would those be?..
Lawrence Auster, on FrontPage Magazine, (http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=21309) describes this invasion as follows:
"The Mexican invasion of the United States began decades ago as a spontaneous migration of ordinary Mexicans into the U.S. seeking economic opportunities. It has morphed into a campaign to occupy and gain power over our countrya project encouraged, abetted, and organized by the Mexican state and supported by the leading elements of Mexican society.
It is, in other words, war. War does not have to consist of armed conflict. War can consist of any hostile course of action undertaken by one country to weaken, harm, and dominate another country. Mexico is waging war on the U.S. through mass immigration illegal and legal, through the assertion of Mexican national claims over the U.S., and through the subversion of its laws and sovereignty, all having the common end of bringing the southwestern part of the U.S. under the control of the expanding Mexican nation, and of increasing Mexicos political and cultural influence over the U.S. as a whole"
When will the real PATRIOTS get the message and FIGHT BACK against this invasion???
Illegal aliens have no rights here , But by allowing this kind of bs to go on they are just getting bolder in thier demands ,
They vote in garbage politicans(yes , illegals vote...illegally)
They are turning this into mexico north ,
There was also a huge number of mexican flags ,
where was ICE , were was our gov't ? sure not enforcing the laws ,
I think that civil war will break out here real soon against these mexican invaders and it will be anything but civil
I will give these Mexicans, and Central Americans, credit. They at least are still willing to assert pride in who they are. What has happened to us?!
Oh, of course, I know. It is called "Liberalism." And it is a very, very dangerous condition.
I wonder if we could ever get 100,000 Americans together to "march" in favor of our immigration laws. I can see why Gutierrez is pimping illegal immigration. It means more votes for him. He's nothing but a two bit, DemocRAT race-baiter in a cheap suit.
Jimrob needs a duplicate threads section. I would have missed the other thread if you hadn't said something.
Actually on the other thread we ended up feeling like there must have only been 35,000 or so,'
Oh, I'm sure it was much less than 100K. I watched one of those ridiculous marches against the war, Bush, etc. on Link TV one day. The airhead leftist host swelled the crowd to "practically over a million" within a couple of sentences. She started out saying there was at least 250K, then said, "but I bet it's more, probably closer to 500K". In the next breath, "I bet over the course of the day we'll have a million people marching."
Not surprising. Leftist ideology put into practice is a hideous thing. They have to lie to keep people attached to it.
Actually, I didn't see it. But I know what they want. Those that rob Peter to pay Paul will always enjoy Paul's support. They are too lazy to work for themselves so they resort to legitimized theft to improve their lot in life.
Check out the pictures in post #6. Nothing but La Raza La Communista invaders. If they think that's going to win any hearts and minds, they are wrong.
What's noteworthy about the distribution of the American flags is that these criminals don't have their own. They'd like the Mexican Flag, with the Hammer & Sickle replacing the Eagle (is it an eagle? whatever it is) that's currently there.
I bet they were speaking Spanish, the language of their ancestors, right? How many of them have some white blood in their background?
I just re-read the Constitution. There is no mention of "immigrants' rights."
There are no clauses in the constitution for any illegal immigrant rights ,
Its more bs , just like they say opposing illegal immigration is racist ,
America better wake up and soon ,
It will take force of arms to expell these mexican invaders and we also will need to kick mexico right in the gut ,
I never , ever agree with the rantings of stormwatch or the klan or any white supremists but there comes a time where we need a strong force to oppose these invaders and I don't see any orginization so far stepping up to confront these
invaders
Maybe they will ?
Sad to see it come to this
Enough said.

As CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports, the protesters -- of Polish, Irish, Latino, Chinese and many other nationalities -- gathered at Union Park, at Ashland Avenue and Lake Street, and marched to the Loop. From the air, it appeared to be an endless sea of demonstrators, flooding the streets to protest the recently-passed house bill, which would make it a crime to hire or even help undocumented immigrants.
At the end of the day, organizers say it was more than half a million protesters. Police estimated the crowd at 300,000.
I'm definitely surprised to see this many people, said protester Cesar Garza. I expected a small amount of crowd, but this is
wow! I'm really surprised.
Many of the protesters were immigrants who took the day off work to attend the rally.
This is a ridiculous bill, said Polish immigrant Paulina Cdnok. I don't understand how it got as far as it did, and they're trying to make this a law -- and then at this point it's a police state.
Other immigrants said their most important goal was to be part of the United States.
Its important that they know that we make great contributions to this country, Chicago resident Maricela Herrera said. Were not here to take any jobs or anything, were here to be able to give our contributions that make the United States what it is.
Mexican immigrant Esperanza Martinez said, We got a family to support. We got a job. We pay taxes. We want to be part of this country.
Mexican immigrant David Martinez said, I want to live here with my family.
The march ended at the Federal Plaza, at Adams and Dearborn streets, where state and local leaders promised to fight for immigrant rights.
Whether their names are Gutierrez or Lozano, Lipinski or Blagojevich; it doesn't matter, said Gov. Rod Blagojevich. This is a country build by immigrants.
Mayor Richard M. Daley said: This is a fight that includes every American. Those who are here undocumented, we're not going to make criminals out of them. That is not what America has ever stood for and will not stand for.
U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez told the crowd that immigrants are here to stay, and pledged to work to block the bill.
The United States flag and banners from Mexico, Honduras, and many others flew over the crowd of thousands at Federal Plaza.
The only opposition to the march came from a group called the Illinois Minutemen Project. Rosanna Pulido of that organization said she believed protecting illegal aliens would violate the law.
They are asking that our laws be totally violated to protect illegal aliens, people who break the law and come into this country, Pulido said.
Earlier in the march, Pulido said, I dont care if theres three million people out there, if they are illegal they do not have a voice in America.
The protest was a nightmare for motorists in and around the loop, but police were ready, and there were no arrests or problems.
We had total cooperation from the organizers and volunteers, said Chicago Police Deputy Supt. Charles Williams, and thats what made for a good orderly march.
The new immigration bill is not a done deal. The U.S. Senate appears likely to pass much more moderate legislation, without the criminal sanctions and with a path to citizenship for those here illegally.
Still, the house version has struck a nerve in multi-cultural Chicago. Many think that could trigger other protests as the legislation is debated in Washington, D.C.
"of Polish, Irish, Latino, Chinese and many other nationalities"
This is total BS, EVERY photo I have been able to find on the web shows a SEA of HISPANIC MESTIZO faces waving Mexican flags!
When the country is embroiled in Civil WAR II, I hope the CBS journalist-traitors are the first to get shocked and awed.

Great...group shot...now smile for the camera ;o)
*poof*
This demonstration is an excellent argument for starting deportation now and punishing anyone who aids illegal aliens (all of whom are criminals, showing their contempt for our laws when it benefits them). Since when does this country belong to foreigner nationals and illegal aliens at that?
That was harsh, I'm sorry.
I'm just frustrated with the increasing number of Freepers who seemingly lurk just to point out dupes.
This was not one and it seemed as though you jumped to that conclusion.
Who provided the school buses? Who files for the permit? Who paid for all these scum-bags to take work off? The union?
Exactly.. And most European and Chinese immigrants are LEGAL (it's hard swimming an ocean), so they wouldn't be protesting this bill. Why does the media continue to group illegal immigration with legal immigration? It does a huge injustice to millions of legal immigrants today and our forefathers.
I assume that is a retorical question. For some perverted reason, the media is anti American.
There. That's much better. And more accurate.
Wasn't *I* the duplicate?
~smile
Thanks for the ping Star!

#41: Good questions. I'd like to know the answers also.
Where was the immigration Department when all of this happen? I bet a lot of them are illegals.
Perhaps in the Associated Press universe BUT.....
CeeBS version of the illegal rally...
Reality version of the illegal rally...
Ain't the "main stream media" just wonderful?
See ya on the border...
