'Leprosy drug in Milosevic's blood'

Traces of a drug used to treat leprosy and tuberculosis were found in a blood sample taken in recent months from former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, a news report has said.

The report came hours after Milosevic's legal adviser revealed a letter the late Serb leader wrote on Friday, one day before his body was discovered in prison, alleging that he was being poisoned.

In the report by state broadcaster NOS, a lawyer and commentator for the channel, Heikelina Verrijn Stuart, said she had confirmation that doctors first noticed the medicine in his blood in January.

Stuart said the drugs interfered with other medicine Milosevic was taking for high blood pressure and vascular disease.

"They were counterproductive," said Stuart, a lawyer who has closely followed the proceedings. "What we do know is that this is the cause of death and you can't say that it was really a case of natural death."

Stuart said the tribunal only learned of the presence of the drug in his blood last week, on March 7.

"It's naturally a riddle," she said.

Dutch doctors conducted a post mortem examination on Milosevic's remains on Sunday, but the results were not expected to be released until Monday.

A tribunal spokeswoman said she could not comment on the news report. "We don't have any information. We simply have to wait for the results" of the autopsy report, said Alexandra Milenov.

Doctors found traces of the drug when they were searching for an answer to why Milosevic's medication for high blood pressure was not working, the report said.

This SOB is dead. Good

I don't know about that. Seems to me the only war crimes may have been committed AGAINST Slobo, not by him. We were soooo lied to at the time, I Don't know if there is any way to tease out what the truth is now. THe fact that he dies while getting ready to put on his defense, when he'd promised to blow the lid off of some things, leads me to suspect conspiracy and murder, murder most foul.

If that sounds too outlandish, well, I would have found Oil For Food too outlandish to be credible, back when the world was saying WE were starving the Iraqi children.

MEthinks he was about to finger somebody. Somebody big. Somebody couldn't afford to allow him to put on his defense. The Russians have been known to use these sorts of techniques, e.g., they Ricin Umbrella, and the Ukrainian dude that turned purple.

The Ricin Umbrella attack was a Bulgarian operation - which was also the outfit that many blame for the attempt on the Pope's life. It could have been the KGB that showed them how or they came up with the technique on their own.

True, I would think the Russians would have done a much better job.

Well this does look like a good CSI episode.

Anyway a day before he dies Slobo writes a 6 page letter to the Russians that he has been slipped a drug designed to make his heart medicine not work.

He is dead the next day in his cell.

Eyebrows tend do go up reading this...

It doesn't have to be true. Even if it is incontrovertably proven that there was no poisoning, Milosevic will now be a martyr.

Anyone having any exposure to the Balkan mentality will understand why. I have seen arguments going back-and-forth between Serbs, Croats, Albanians, Turks, Greeks, etc. First and foremost is the tribe. And when they don't have members of other tribes to hate, they happily commence hating each other.

The ultimate quagmire.

Well in this case it just may have the inkling of truth which will indeed make Slobo (the least deserving of all) martyrs. But if true a martyr none the less.

I am apparently not as well versed in this as you and Proctor seem to be. My only information was from the MSM that he was a war criminal charged with crimes of a mass murder of 8,000 Muslims. If this is as you are stating then it it will be the biggest conspiracy ever accomplished. Still, the circumstances are suspicious to me whether his demise was by friend or foe.If I were in his place and was to face a court with evidence for conviction, I would rather have taken the easy way out and cheat the hangman. My tag for him if he is innocent "Deo Vindice" If not GOOD

He was alleged war criminal charged with mass murder of alleged 8000 muslims.

Being charged, being found guilty and being convicted are not synonimous things.

Especially when fraudulent charge is politically motivatated, without the factual evidence.

Slob was a S.O.B. but even S.O.B.s should have the legal protection. Not because of them, but because of the rest of us.

Consider the following. Almost the entire Muslim world consider Bush a war criminal. Should U.S. allow an international court, paid by Saudis and Malaysia to hijack Bush illegally to prison in Europe, keep him on 5 year trial without any evidence except groomed witnesses and subseqently murder him because "he is criminal charged with crimes of a mass murder of 8,000 Muslims in Falouja".

Think again. Murder of Milosevic is not about him, it is about us.

My last reply.

Does this mean Saddam was just another innocent bystander?

Don't get me wrong, I don't KNOW he's innocent. It's just that since I've become a conservative and I see the pack o' crap the media serves up every day, I realize that whatever the truth was back in 1998, it wasn't what we were being told. The big problem with the 8000 muslims is that they've never been able to find the mass graves.
