On a purely hypothetical note, could you imagine the caterwauling that would go on in the "North" today if they had to fight the Civil War, especially if it divided along Red/Blue state lines? I would imagine that most of the "Red" Western states would join a secession movement from the "enlightened Blue" "North". It would be rather funny to watch the anti-war Norther elite-types struggling between the desire to preserve the "Union" and their pacifist "principles".

It would be a disaster for the blue side.

Keep in mind that what you have are "pockets" of blue in those states and due to the large populations centered in those pockets, the state goes blue, but geographically, most of the state would be red.

President Bush captured the popular vote in 85% of the land mass in the 48 states.

That 15% that Kerry carried was all the large cities and a few pockets here and there.

For the sake of arugement we'll leave out alaska and hawaii.

See what your reply #4 has done? It has turned your own thread into a civil war thread when the original thread had nothing to do with the civil war.

You gotta watch what you say reb.

Liberals are intolerant of the family. Now if that was a statue of Two Mommies And Little Heather - Portland's Art Commissars could live with it. Talk about values hypocrisy.

In order to beat them the North had to throw away the Constitution.

I hope we don't have to do that to defeat the Islamofascist enemy of our time.

I have often contemplated the outcome of Civil War v2.0. and to be honest I have frequently wished that the South had won version 1.0.

And no, slavery or racism has nothing to with the subject at hand; there was more to it than that. Read the writings of R.L. Dabney, however, he is not for the weakminded and if you do read his writings, be prepared to have many of your assumptions challenged.

So far nothing has been bent near as badly as Roosevelt bent the rules during WW2.

True, but presumably those states would still go blue unless you started talking about fragmenting states.
