I'm puzzled, however. They were both out of their cars, fueling their vehicles. So, either their gas caps weren't the locking kind (WHAT???) or their gas cap keys were on a separate ring. Considering that it's the LAW everywhere in the USA that I've been to shut off your vehicle when you are fuelling it, it makes no sense to have the gas key and the ignition key on different rings, since you have to have the ignition off when you are at a gas station and so it's useless to have the key in the ignition.

Yes, I was referring to the gas cap DOOR and the fact that many vehicles have a button on the dash for opening those fuel doors. I only brought it up because of your above comment ("I'm puzzled, though...") concerning the location of the "keys"....yata yata

As for the story itself, it was obviously a serious error in judgement for the father to leave his keys in the vehicle while he was away from the vehicle.

That isn't an issue where we live, but I know it is out there.

I'm sure that the ACLU will be falling all over themselves in a rush to sign him up as a poster subject for their campaign against "fascist police harassing disadvantaged minorities"

I wonder if his tats include an MS-13.

I have no doubt that this thug has a very friendly relationship with that fine organization.

Thank you for your kind reply  :-)  Hopefully you will still exercise your rights to self-protection, as these gangs are encroaching upon previously "safe" communities precisely because they regard such places as "easy pickings".

You're welcome, Stoat. Yes, we must all protect ourselves. I'm fortunate to live in a small community in Interior Alaska where crimes such as these are unheard of. When we go to Fairbanks or Anchorage, we always lock our vehicles, and during the cold winter months, one set of keys stays in the ignition to keep the vehicle running. But locally, we leave the keys in the ignition pretty much all of the time.

I believe you, Brad's Gramma. Like I was explaining to Stoat, our situation here is unusual. That being said, I'm always extremely cautious when I have to go to what we call the "other world". My husband and I plan on spending a few months each winter in the Lower 48 and although I love the thought of warmer weather, I am terribly fearful of the dangers I hear so much about.

Oh yes, you're absolutely correct, winter WILL come back. Alaska is funny that way. Winter is long, dark, and kind of nippy. Minus 30 to -60 isn't unusual, and when it's brutal cold there isn't much to do outside, but it sure is cozy inside. A good time to spend days sewing, posting on FR, sewing, posting on FR, reading books and posting on FR....and of course stoking the fire.

Hi Stoat-

Just so you don't get flooded with FReepmail requests...you don't need to bold, italicize, and enlarge the text to illustrate what was written earlier in the thread. Italics is a sufficient "reminder" and is what is generally used on this forum.

Thanks,

You're right. A judge isnt a rocket science either, is he? Evidence of dangerous intent is definately easy to prove!

I was curious too and looked up another story. The tattoo on his neck is his name "NEZ."

I'm glad the little one wasn't hurt. An adorable little boy.
