The Bush administration Wednesday night released the first declassified documents collected by U.S. intelligence during the Iraq war, showing among other things that Saddam Hussein's regime was monitoring reports that Iraqis and Saudis were heading to Afghanistan after the Sept. 11 attacks to fight U.S. troops.
The documents, the first of thousands expected to be declassified over the next several months, were released via a Pentagon Web site at the direction of National Intelligence Director John Negroponte.
Many were in Arabic with no English translation including one the administration said showed that Iraqi intelligence officials suspected al-Qaeda members were inside Iraq in 2002.
The Pentagon Web site described that document this way: "2002 Iraqi Intelligence Correspondence concerning the presence of al-Qaeda Members in Iraq. Correspondence between IRS members on a suspicion, later confirmed, of the presence of an Al-Qaeda terrorist group. Moreover, it includes photos and names."
The release of the documents, expected to continue for months, is designed to allow lawmakers and the public to investigate what documents from Saddam's regime claimed about such controversial issues as weapons of mass destruction and al-Qaeda in the period before the United States invaded Iraq in March 2003.

Doing everything they can to down play this at Asso Propagana now aren't they.
hmmmmmmm....guess I'll have to go out a buy an Arabic/English Dictionary now...
Saddam is as dirty as they come...he did aid and support terrorists, including Al Qaeda...the evidence is mounting.
Darn....why would al Qaeda be in Iraq? What do they think it is, Yale University?
Actually I wonder if you can lay your hands on the Doc if Freeper Iraqikurd would not help us out.
They thought Salman Pak was a satellite campus for Embry-Riddle...
You don't need an Arabic/English dictionary to know that Islam, the left and the Islamofascists are at war with us.
They're not going to stop.
They don't want "peace", they want to destroy America, the Jews, Israel and Western civilization. Simple as that.
I bet so.....and I wonder if the PrinceOfCups speaks Arabic...he has been in the Middle East a long time.
Give out a ping. Couldn't hurt.
I just wish the "powers that be" would realize it...and I don't mean President Bush...
I think he "knows" it....but, as POTUS, he can't say what he thinks...remember how much trouble he got into by talking about the EVIL ones...during his State of the Union address years ago???
I guess there are so many docs that they decided just to start releasing them even if they aren't all translated.
"the administration said showed that Iraqi intelligence officials suspected al-Qaeda members were inside Iraq in 2002." ??????
That has the appearance and flavor of a L/MSM spin, implying clearly that Iraqi intel did not know whether or not al-Q mbrs were in Iraq, but could only suspect their presence.
Har, har-de-har!!
We would be intrested in hearing your thoughts on these documents if you have the time.
I know that Stephen Hayes...that has been writing about this for months and months...has said that at first the thought was to have it all translated...
BUT, when told it could take a very long time...with the limited translators they have...plus, the chance that those that don't want to believe there were WMDs anyway, might question that actua translation...
It would be better to just "dump" them...and let the "public" decide.
However, I guess Negroponte at first said that there wasn't much there....and now is saying it isn't good to release them because of the possible intelligence that could be gleaned from them...so go figure.
Aren't there literally millions of people in this country who know Arabic? Why can't they just work in shifts of 8 hours a day everyday?
Wish I could read this one? Conclusion of report about the elections campain in France.
Are there different "dialects" that would also complicate translation?
I know that even here in the US...the way certain things are phrased, can change from the north to the south...at least enough that someone who is new to the language could get confused.
Exactly. And it is going to be interesting to see how the MSM tries to bury this when the blogosphere and talk radio will be all over it. Oh the gymnastics that will be employed. Heh heh.
It will start something like this: **fingers in ears** lalalalalalalala.
I heard lefties on the radio today already attacking these as fake and suspicious because of "Bush's low poll numbers".
They even went on to say that "Saddam never had any WMD. This was the lie to take us to war." Yeah, Bozo? Tell that to the Kurds. I have had it with them. I say full-court press assault. Let's roll.
Link to the Doucments about Iraq and Al Qeda.
Link to the Iraq-Al Qeda docs
Oh...I'll be right there....after I learn Arabic...LOL
Yes, I just heard Stephen Hayes on the radio today, and also Pete Hoekstra. They both said there are approximately two million documents. Can you imagine how many man hours to translate that many docs? Yikes.
Seems to me a huge portion of the public has made up it's mind about WMDs and facts won't change that . This won't make any real difference .The MSM wont have to work hard to surpress any of this , the public won't really care at this point . People like us do but to most it's a closed case. Sorry to be so negative but that's what I see.
I told my niece, who is majoring in Political Science in college, two years ago..to take a few courses in Arabic...
She hasn't yet...but, I don't think it would be a bad idea...considering the WOT in the Middle East will continue a long time..and the need to converse with them could be very valuable in Washington DC for a long time.
My friend (and neighbor)recently told her niece the exact same thing. I think she is seriously looking into it.
It would be very smart...
Look at Condi, she majored in Russian History (I think, I know it had to do with Russia)...and now she is the Sec. of State...
Learning different languages would make someone invaluable in Washington and at embassies everywhere.
The press will automatically be in anti-Bush reaction mode and do their damnedest to distort their significance as portrayed by the administration....better to just let the tapes and documents be released and let them stand on their own merits, and when the MSM liars try to distort them....then shoot them down with facts.
Did you look at them?
One of them is a threat to the UAE to quit cooperating with us or else.
Huh, imagine that.
I like the one that mentions how the international media is a powerful tool for aq to propagandize to muslims.
Absolutely. Wish I would have had the foresight way back when. I was too interested in "supporting" starving rock musicians. ;^) If I knew THEN what I know now...
Well, Bush effectively ordered Negoponte to release them, which is why it is finally happened.
ping
Thank you very much. I just found the link and had not gotten that far. Intresting stuff indeed
Thanks for this post, jmc1969. BTTT
I tend to agree with your conclusions here but you are guaranteed to lose a fight if you surrender before it starts. The truth doesn't change just because people don't want to hear it.
Living in the DC area, I think addition languages would be invaluable when just trying to order at the local McDonald's.
What station were you listening to when you heard that?
Former Iraqi General Georges Sada, who was a military adviser to Saddam Hussein appeared on The Mike Rosen Show (850 AM KOA) Tuesday March 14th, 2006. He is described as an expert airforce pilot who played a large part in saving coalition pilots' lives in Gulf War I. Sada explains what happened to the WMDs prior to the US led invasion of Iraq in 2003, stopping Saddams planned all-out chemical weapons attack on Israel, saving the downed coalition pilots of Gulf War 1 from execution among other interesting topics.

I was listening to Dennis Prager's show, (The Patriot AM1280, Twin Cities) but he had someone filling in for him, maybe Glenn Taylor? Anyway, first he had Stephen Hayes on and then Pete Hoekstra. It was very interesting.
Then all the lefties started calling in saying they "pity you guys on the right. It's almost pathetic really..." I try not to use course language, but that really pissed me off. Put me in the fighting spirit, so to speak.
You'll have to have more than an Arabic/English dictionary for this task. More like a Klingon/Terran thesaurus.
Thank you, I was curious.
It's not easy and just not safe to translate and drive a cab at the same time ...
(Sorry, no disrespect intended - just stupid Jay Leno style "humor" ...)
That information has been on the DoD website for quite some time. A terrorist hideout was found during the Iraq War in the NE part of the country of Iraq, and satellite photos of a terrorist training camp in Salman Pak.
Some of this stuff is probably not new to a great number of people. But, leave it to the AP to give the impression the Bush administration had been fiddling with intelligence information.
Too bad the RINO's won't allow the "white flag" ad to be run again on TV
Pass this "white flag" ad around on the internet
