Campbell Live: Neighbourhoods Opting For Private Policing (New Zealand)
TV3 (New Zealand) "Campbell Live" ^ | March 15, 2006 | Campbell Live

Crime in New Zealand is probably not something you get to see much news about in the United States. Life here is very different to life in the USA, and despite what you may have heard, Crime is a growing problem DownUnder. And we are seeing a proliferation of some purely-American criminal elements and ideas, such as "Crips" and "Bloods" and colors, and the occasional drive-by-shooting. These are new concepts to us: they were not here 10 years ago.

Accordingly, we have imported some good old-fashioned American ideas to help us combat Crime: such as the Guardian Angels. (Full disclosure: that's me in the video)

Therefore, I thought this short TV news video clip might be interesting to you:

Enjoy! And I will be interested in your feedback...

Kind Regards "DieHard the Hunter"

Kia Ora,

> I think it has developed with the "do goodie's" that have taken control of the politics

I think you are right, mate.

Wasn't too long ago, either, that people would leave their houses unlocked, and their car keys in the ignition. As recently as 1989 (my first trip to NZ) this was common. Now, don't even think about it, or some scroat will swipe your goods.

Grafitti, too, was uncommon back then. Now it is everywhere.

It took very little time for Crime to take off here and get beyond our Police capabilities to control.

When you say "all the crazies like you in the States" you are merely referring to specific crazies in the States, not particular crazies like me.

I'm just your typical American bird dog.

Yuh, not pleasant. But of all the things to see while on Patrol, that's reasonably tame.

Literally true: it is a different world out there after dark.

For example, we encounter 12-yr-old street kids who would quite happily trade sex or solvent to any scroat driving by with glue or solvent for them to sniff. How do you fix a situation like that??

They hide (stolen) alcohol in dumpsters (dumpsters!) for later consumption because nobody would think of looking there, and dumpsters are only tipped out once per week (a schedule they have memorized). Almost as good as a fridge, I guess -- if you ignore the potential for disease and industrial poisoning from toxic chemicals, &tc...

Fair to say, a few of them have gone Feral.

Q: Where are the parents?

A: Take your pick: in gaol, in the bar playing slot machines, in the bar getting drunk, in the tinnie hut buying P-Methamphetamine, in the tinnie hut manufacturing P-Methamphetamine, holding up the liquor store, burglarizing someone's home, home-invading with any weapon handy, stealing cars, mugging someone, selling him-or-herself on a street corner, b*ggering off to Australia leaving mum and kids behind, running with the gangs...

Crikey. A not-funny situation at best.
