There will be a press conference about the documents today at 1:30pm EST:

How about an Army of Davids to translate and process the info?

Debate at RedState.

Flashback: AJStrata - Unleash the blogosphere

Flashback: Pajamas Media documentarian Andrew Marcus interviews Rep. Hoekstra Feb. 16 about the docs: "They ought to be put on the Internet...unleash the power of the 'net on these 55,000 boxes of documents to see exactly what went on...Let the blogosphere go!"

And an Army of Freepers has started to dig through the docs. Jveritas provides a translation of a document linking Iraq and Osama bin Laden CMPC-2003-001488 (hat tip: Jawa Report):

John Hinderaker starts digging into the new document trove here.

I would like to remind everyone that CNS News revealed the existance of 42 pages of important Iraqi documents in October 2004. They subsequently went on to publish them in their entirety. I would suggest that these be added to this to the PJM archive.

Stephen Hayes most recent article in the Weekly Standard is a real eye-opener too.

I would also remind everyone of the documents found by Mitch Potter of the Toronto Star. ( Apr. 27, 2003. 09:58 AM )

In the minutes to come, we regained composure, biting our lips as Amir worked away at the rest of the document with the knife blade, as if performing open-heart surgery. A second blob of corrective fluid came off, revealing another "bin Laden." And then a third.

Just in case you overlooked it:

SADDAM DOCUMENT PROJECT: IRAQFILES

tape.jpgThe Pentagon is releasing many never before seen Saddam era documents and media. A large number of these are still in the original Arabic. The hope is that the blogosphere will help translate. At our new IRAQFILES blog PJM will monitor and post the growing number of translations from an Army of Translators of these documents and media. The first two, of the same document, are here (by Iraq the Model) and here. Others are being posted (with analysis) at the IRAQFILES.

IMPORTANT: As new documents are posted on the Pentagon site, please send your translations from the Arabic and analyses to the following email: iraq dash-sign translations at-sign pajamasmedia dot-character com. Please type "Translation Project" in the subject line.

Upon clicking on the individual pages of Arabic documents, readers will have an opportunity to click on the unedited English translation of those documents. We hope this serves to further illuminate a very important element of the ongoing debate.

How Innocuous Were Those Tapes, Anyway?

Not long ago, ABC News broadcast a number of tapes that recorded meetings of Iraqi officials before the American invasion, including Saddam Hussein and his inner circle. After the tapes aired, the general opinion was that the tapes had some historical and contextual interest but provided no smoking guns on Saddam's instransigence. The DoD and DNI have now posted transcripts of all the tapes, and the information contained within them may change that evaluation.

Ray Robison has begun a blogswarm to highlight the review of the documents. Be sure to read his ongoing commentary on the transcripts. For instance, page 6 of this document shows that Saddam was kept informed of the status of three German scientists working in the employ of Saddam:

Saddam Personally Ordered Chemical Attack On Kurds

The Scotsman reports on a key piece of evidence that ties Saddam Hussein directly to the disgusting genocide of Kurds in Halabja almost twenty years ago. Memos from his personal secretary to military leaders make clear that Saddam wanted to use chemical weapons on Kurdish positions in 1987: Comments (5) |

How Much is That Fighter in the Window?

The newly declassified captured Iraqi documents available for public inspection a the Foreign Military Studies Office Joint Reserve Intelligence Center are a grab bag; many of them given without synopsis or explanation. Take this transcript of an audiotape, wherein Saddam gets a sales pitch for the French Mirage-4000 fighter/strike aircraft:  Also posted at The Dread Pundit Bluto and Vince Aut Morire.

A BTT. This is too important to let the MSM dismiss. The historical revisionists have just about clubbed the public into accepting the Big Lie. Time for the new media to ride.

McInerney explains it as well as anyone... but I'm not sure if we have the time to defeat the Iranian mullah's simply through covert action/air-power. Once they have a weapon in that lengthy scenario... they'll use it. Most likely, on our forces in Iraq.

Instead of clearly informing America of the inevitable conflict with Iran/Syria... the MSM squeals for withdrawal from Iraq... and disengagement. DISENGAGEMENT!

The steady drone of disinformation, memes, spin, and polls is depressing, isn't it? I feel flashbacks to the nineteen-sixties, and all the nonsense that turned Vietnam from victory to defeat in the air.

I really don't know if the alternative media is mature enough to counter their garbage, but it's the only shot we have.

Basically, anyone getting their information solely from headlines, or the Tired Old Media, is so uninformed as to be dangerous.
