In every other nation in the world, including the UK (I can attest to that), if anyone actually had the temerity to build such a float, the riders would be lynched and the truck and float wrecked. Only in Israel do crowds cheer. Only in Israel are President George W. Bush and Dr. Condoleezza Rice total heroes. (And doesn't Condi look just great!)

I will say when I was in Jerusalem, I ran into an Orthodox Jew who said words to the effect of, You American? I love George Bush!
I'm sorry I didn't film that moment.
Just one word: Purim.
And that doesn't take away anything from what I wrote above.
It's much more than that. The hatred for America goes way beyond George Bush. In Europe especially Americans are seen as: insane fundamentalists, bullies, insanely greedy, selfish, oblivious to everyone else's needs. In Israel alone, America is idolised.
Gotcha. Now it makes sense.

A work acquaintance of my husband's went to S. America a few years ago for work.....can't remember which country....but they got asked, well, "where are your guns?" He'd look at them trying to figure out what they were talking about.....then he had to explain that Americans as a rule don't run around with guns, unlike in the movies....

I've met Europeans who are too scared to visit the US because they think we drive around in massive cars shooting out our windows and running people over. And then they call us ignorant and uninformed.

They hate you with the same passion they used to hate Jews. They hate you for all the same reasons: religion, love of family, devotion to tradition, respect for education, no fear of risk-taking, passion for hard work.

The same reason why Jews dress up as Roman Catholic priests in Lodz and cowboys in Tel Aviv. It's Purim when the world is a lot crazy and pretty much anything goes.
Maybe it's some secular quasi religious rite.
The Israelis are surrounded by neighbors who want to kill them. They understand that we are a true friend. the Euroweenies who are traditionally our allies are surrounded by whining welfare state socialists. They won't get it (although some, like the plucky Danes, do) until the threat becomes real to them, and often not even then.

You forgot the most important part of the equation... GOD loves Israel and America. They hate us because they are on the side of satan and his fallen angels.
