Kudos again to FR, Buckhead, Howlin, Texasforever, NYCVirago, and of course Jim for having this site to begin with.
"Chapter 9 "We're Toast" pg 143 - 145 directly credits Freepers above with uncovering the "missing Documents" out of President Bush's National Guard Service that were distinctly unflattering to the President, and also flat forgeries.
I am reading the book at the moment, and I wanted to pause and give credit where credit is due. I thank all those who helped bring to light these roaches that considered themselves so important as to try to influence a Presidential Election. I thank all of you personally who were influential in finally getting to call the MSM on the carpet, SUCCESSFULY! Bill Sammon has immortalized you in print, you are all immortal in my heart, you were the tipping point in an election. I am eternally grateful! You have done this Nation a service that can not be quantified.

Here is the famous post:
To: Howlin
Howlin, every single one of these memos to file is in a proportionally spaced font, probably Palatino or Times New Roman.
In 1972 people used typewriters for this sort of thing, and typewriters used monospaced fonts.
The use of proportionally spaced fonts did not come into common use for office memos until the introduction of laser printers, word processing software, and personal computers. They were not widespread until the mid to late 90's. Before then, you needed typesetting equipment, and that wasn't used for personal memos to file. Even the Wang systems that were dominant in the mid 80's used monospaced fonts.
I am saying these documents are forgeries, run through a copier for 15 generations to make them look old.
This should be pursued aggressively.

I'm with you. I was very new to this website and remember being absolutely glued to it for hours and hours reading the posts.
It truly was historic. Little did we know at the time how remarkable it was! History was made.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all who were involved.
To: Danae; Buckhead
Freepers CAN do a great deal of good when they get the bit in their teeth, and fill their saddlebags with facts. I have a background in print media advertising (long, long ago). The instant I read Buckhead's famous Post #47, I knew then and there he had it right, and the documents were fakes.
Bringing down Rather was the turning point in the war between the Old Media and the New Media. And the first shot in that war, it's Lexington and Concord, was fired by Buckhead.

Interesting ... Bush's service record (from your detailed reference thread) from May to July 1973 has been pulled by Acrobat ( ...or SEE BS??? ).. LOL. Perhaps they were rightly threatened with slander/libel and who knows what else by the man they so tried to destroy?? Blather never told the truth anyway, so we'd never know the repercussions from him or his former "superiors."

First and for most, thank you for your service and sacrifice. I was born after the Viet Nam War, but it is my hope (and I believe it will happen) that it is my generation that is remembered for bringing the honor that is due to those of you who sacrificed so much of yourselves for so many who were ungrateful back at home. Thanks to places like this, the history of that war is being corrected to finally tell the truth and it is my belief that my generation sees the real Viet Nam. A war where our soldiers never lost an engagement, of POW's who survived torture for 6,7,8 years and never dishonored themselves or their country. And most of all, the complete dishonor of so-called 'patriots' who spit on, cursed and shamelessly spread lies about the only true honorable men of their generation. God Bless you and all who have served this great nation.

Thank you for your good heart, txroadkill.
But the fight for CLARITY goes on to this day, about a new time of war in a new century.
Only this time its our own Freedom that's directly at stake and it's the same Anti-Freedom liars who are doing the same blurring of the truth thru our American media as they try to re-enter our Oval Office in this time of national peril:
HILLARY RODHAM
WILLIAM CLINTON
WALTER CRONKITE
TED KENNEDY
JOHN KERRY
BARBARA BOXER, and all.
They must all be finally defeated before its too late ..for US.
For the Enemy is now within...
...and always has been.

I was watching that night as well Howlin, it just gives me the Chills, I read that thread as it was being written, just sitting and wondering what was going to come of it, it was just so apparent that there was a dead fish in the back seat... You called it and I personally am in your debt! This Nation is. Who knows what would have happened if you had not, perhaps Rather and Mapes would have gotten away with it, and perhaps Kerry would have won the election... The Horror of that thought... The Horror of the following thought, "it was just that close", is enough to make me sick to my stomach even this morning!
I am so GLAD that Sammon included you in his book, and the others who were mentioned. I am eternally grateful that some of the MSM got back in real terms some of the BS they have been shoveling us for years. I would love to ask Rather, "So, in light of your nefarious "Journalism", lack of ethics, and complete loss of Journalistic standards, do you think that you were properly and appropriately punished for publishing Forgeries on "60 Minutes", and a follow up, do you believe you owe President Bush a personal Apology for what amounted to a sleazy lo-ball attack on his character during a Presidential Election?" But I am not holding my breath! lol
I thank you again for being so on the ball. You ROCK!

The point is, we have to have facts on our side.
For every buckhead post, there are 99 posts that are speculation that doesnt pan out, or is just plain wrong.
The MSM uses that 'noise' to discredit the good work that is done.
Right now, it is bloggers (and a few independent journies like Steven Hayes) that are driving the Saddam documents story ... a story the MSM is mainly ignoring.
