Corzine Ready To Lower Tax Boom On N.J. CBS 2 Speaks To Upset Residents, Many Hint At Leaving Image
Marcia Kramer Reporting
(CBS) BERGENFIELD New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine unveils his belt tightening new budget on Tuesday. But even before the announcement, New Jersey taxpayers were expecting the worst.
When Corzine voted for himself to become governor of New Jersey he knew that one day he would have to make some difficult and unpopular budget decisions. That day is Tuesday. And already people are lining up to oppose his expected tax hikes.
Its utterly ridiculous we have to have the guts to cut spending and live within our means, Bogota Mayor Steven Lonegan said.
Lonegan on Monday established a grassroots group to oppose Corzine's expected tax cuts.
Corzine has indicated he favors sales tax hikes as part of a plan to close a $4 billion budget gap.
But the state's inability to increase school aid is expected to force local governments to increase property taxes.
If state aid is flat we will have to raise local property taxes roughly 10 to 15 percent, Lonegan said.
Some New Jersey homeowners say they're thinking about leaving the state. Others already have.

Isn't it funny that the taxes go up under Democratic governors early in their administrations? Isn't it funny how that happens? Remember that, Pennsylvania? Remember?

This is nothing new for New Jersey or New York. I have been living in eastern Pennsylvania for many years. in the last 20 years there have been thousands that still work in NJ & NY but wish to live and raise their children here. Eastern Pa has had a remarkable transformation with many working families and retirees moving away from the high taxes and crime.

I bailed on Jersey 4 years ago for the "tax haven" of Philly. No, I'm not crazy...I was born and raised here and my cost of living has actually gone down. I dislike going to Jersey at all, even if their gas is 20 cents cheaper (but not for long!)

Massive tax increases, corruption, over-regulation, too much government, and increasing social programs were the reason I left my huge family behind in 1996. Since then -- matters have become so bad in New Jersey that many members of my family have been planning to exit.
It is now a state catering to the non-working, the illegal immigrant, big government, and unions. (The New Jersey Teachers' Union -- NJEA being the most powerful union in hte state.)
It is criminal what is happening in New Jersey.

Upset Residents, Many Hint At Leaving....
I'm just laughing and chuckling as I read the above heading. The folks at NJ had several chances to vote for a known tax cutters ( e.g., Brett Schundler ), they chose instead, people like ----> Bobby (bribe-taker) Torricelli, Jim (Brokeback) Mcgreevy, and now Jon (under the table) Corzine.
Now here they are complaining about taxes being raised. I THOUGHT THEY VOTED FOR THESE PEOPLE PRECISELY to raise their taxes to pay for all their programs....
Face if folks, NJ and NY are hopeless. Even when they vote for Republicans, they are simply RINO's.

Maybe I'm being delusional, but my prediction is that these tax hikes are not going to materialize to the extent that they have been described here.
Corzine can propose anything he wants, but anyone in the state legislature who remembers what happened during the Florio administration isn't going to go out on a limb for his budget if it means their jobs in Trenton are threatened.
To: Darkwolf377
Hi Darkwolf377-"...Anyone who voted for him and is shocked at this is an idiot..."
I'm convinced that many knucklehead voters cast their ballot based on the number of red, white, and blue campaign Corzine signs they saw dotting the landscape. It was somewhat of a popularity contest. The boring fade-into-the-background green, gold, and gray signs Forrester used sure didn't cause folks to remember his name. I question whether any urban voters even knew he was Corzine's opponent?
While both Liberal Jon Corzine and RINO Doug Forrester have tons of money, Corzine had much more available and was able to spread his name around more effectively.
It will be curious to see if the leftists start crying when they're forced to pay taxes on groceries, toilet paper, clothing, and other basic necessities. It'll be a hoot when sales tax increases from 6% up to 10% on everything else and people start flocking to Pennsylvania or Delaware for big shopping trips.

I remember Florio well. The problem is half the voting age population have never heard the name. That was a full generation ago. That's why Corzine got elected. Not enough remember.
I hear Corzine might extend the sales tax to include clothing. That'll really stick it to all those rich folks. I'm sure everybody's looking forward to seeing what Donald Trump looks like nekkid.
