The Joe Wilson Op-Ed

Posted on 03/22/2006 3:46:52 PM PST by Guy in Bumblebee Suit

Hi, longtime lurker and firsttime poster. To the point: I'm looking for the editorial or op-ed that Joe Wilson wrote in, I think, the LA Times not long after the 2003 State of the Union address where he supports the administration.

If my memory serves me, Wilson was in support of the administration until he was hired by the Kerry campaign (April, 2004, maybe?).

For some reason, the whole Wilson-Plame crap is an ongoing argument in my family, and I'm trying to get my facts in line. If anyone can help me, I'd be grateful.

To diverse on a brief, biographic, introductory vanity, I'm a strong conservative in a family the considers the Democratic Party too far to the right. The (maternal) family has always been politically active, and from my earliest days I was exposed to The Daily World, Soviet Life, and other publications and members from the ACP and CPUSA. I do not hide this aspect of my life and offer it here in the interest of disclosure. I am not another David Horowitz, though, because I never accepted the premise of communism/socialism, it always seemed like a bad imitation of true religion. I know who the left really is, what the left really wants, and how they think. And it scares the hell out of me.

My father was conservative but has taken a strong left turn in the last few years.

I am pro-life, pro-gun, pro-private property rights and pro-God. I try to be a good Christian but I know in my heart that I am a sinner. I am happily married to a supportive wife and we have beautiful children. I am a Marine combat veteran and I am one tough SOB. I am a self-employed renovation contractor and I love debate.

And I want my daughters to grow up in a world where they will never have to wear a Burkha or Berkinstocks.

I live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and am available for activism/support.

That's who I am, and I believe I have a strong community in Free Republic. Now that I'm posting, you'll hear from me often.

Thanks, Howlin. I have time to read threads, now that the car chase is over. ;-)

OK, I found what I was looking for. After reading it, my recollection is clear. I found the article, after clicking through so many of your links, on Wilson's own website (!). Here's the meat of the matter that I wasn't clear on:

Wilson wrote this article in the Los Angeles Times on Feb 6, 2003, nine days after the State of the Union address that got the left (and, ultimately, Wilson) in such a tizzy because the President used "those 16 words" about the British intel/Africa/yellowcake thing. I couldn't remember what it was about the Wilson piece that was sticking in my mind, but here it is: he disputes nothing in the SOTU, only has a problem with the war option. His complaint about the war option is that Wilson believes that Saddam will use his WMD against the US! It is not until later in the year that he changes his tune on WMD.

Here's the link:

I can tell you after a few hours of researching this, Joe Wilson should be the most irrelevant man in the world. Virtually everything he ever said is contradicted by Joe Wilson. He was the perfect advisor for Kerry.

'nuff said.

Thank you for your help everyone.

Clicking through MY links? Or everybody's links?

BTW, now that you've linked it, I remember finding that web site and reading through it; he had some of the chapters of his "book" on there and even THEY made a liar out of him.........LOL.

I still think that whatever Rockefeller discovered that sent him to Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia in January 2002, just a few short months after 9/11 is what caused the Joe Wilson mission in February 2002.

I think the Vice President's questions stirred up a hornet nest and there was a need to do something.

I find it difficult to call the trip Joe Wilson took as investigative and definitive. He submitted nothing in writing, but had a whole lot to write about a year later.

A nice quote from your link:

"There is now no incentive for Hussein to comply with the inspectors or to refrain from using weapons of mass destruction to defend himself if the United States comes after him.

And he will use them; we should be under no illusion about that." Joe Wilson Feb 2003

Yes, that LA Times op-ed proves how fraudulent Wilson's later campaign was/is. We had some extensive discussions of this on other threads here in the past 3 years. The whole "Niger uranium" line of attack on Bush was cooked up only starting in May 2003 when libs became desperate to try to discredit the administration.
